Something feels harder than it should and you might not even have the words for it yet. Maybe you're overwhelmed, anxious, or carrying grief you can't quite name. Perhaps becoming a parent has brought unexpected emotions to the surface. Or you're in the middle of a life transition that's left you feeling lost. I offer warm, relational psychotherapy tailored entirely to you, a space to slow down, make sense of what's happening and feel less alone with it.

I specialise in working with anxiety, depression, burnout, trauma and work issues. I am highly trained in trauma-informed psychotherapy and coaching. My integrative approach blends transactional analysis psychotherapy, EMDR, and ancient healing practices to address root causes for good. In our first meeting, we’ll discuss goals, agree how we’ll work, and create a flexible plan for lasting change, usually with weekly sessions.

My name is David, and I offer outcome-focused therapy for complex challenges such as depression, anxiety, addiction, and relationship difficulties, whether these arise at home or at work. I believe lasting change comes from understanding where difficulties originated and how they continue to shape your life today. Our work may involve exploring past experiences and the emotions linked to them in a compassionate, empathic, and non-judgmental way. This helps uncover how earlier experiences inform how you think, feel, and respond in the present, creating the conditions for meaningful, lasting, and sustainable change over time.

Please get in contact if you are having difficulty dealing with anxiety, panic attacks or depression, and are looking for help to understand what the meaning of these symptoms are. Perhaps you want to explore more specific questions, "who am I", "what do I want out of life" or "why do I always end up in the same situation". You may want help coming to terms with a crisis in your life, a bereavement, or a relationship difficulty that you are having, or maybe to explore uncomfortable feelings.

I am a psychodynamic counsellor and psychotherapist registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC).
Psychodynamic psychotherapy involves helping you to identify and understand recurring themes and patterns in your relationships. Although certain ways of relating may have been conducive to your survival at one point, you may now be experiencing their cost. Psychotherapy aims to make these relational patterns conscious and thus more amenable to change.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy offers you an experience of yourself that you cannot have alone.
Present difficulties often have their roots in our past. We are very creative at finding solutions, or self-cures, for what we have experienced. They help us to get by. But often, what troubles us today is a self-cure that no longer works. It's time to time to try something else.

I offer psychoanalytic psychotherapy in my consulting rooms in Finsbury Park and Cambridge, and in some instances remotely.
Perhaps you’re finding it hard to feel at ease in your body, your sexuality, or your relationships—feeling weighed down by anxiety, shame, or confusion about who you are or what you want. I work with both adults and young people, often those facing complex challenges that may be rooted in painful or traumatic experiences. Some people come after having had CBT or other time-limited therapies before and feeling frustrated it hasn’t brought the change they hoped for. Others already understand a lot about their struggles but still feel stuck with painful symptoms.

I am an Attachment Psychotherapist which means that I help you explore your past and present experiences that may have affected you in some way. Sometimes our experiences can leave us feeling insecure or lacking in confidence, making it difficult to form or sustain healthy relationships or cope with everyday life. Talking this through with a psychotherapist can help you to understand and value yourself more. It is not the job of a psychotherapist to tell you what to do but to offer you different perspectives and a different experience of relating.

Psychoanalytic Counsellors
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
