Hello and Welcome, Life can indeed be difficult at times. Many are struggling with mental health in ways that are no longer manageable. Our past and present hurts, our unprocessed feelings can rise to the surface. We find ourselves thinking, feeling and acting in ways that do not reflect who we want to be. Some of us have Grief, Trauma or Addiction that we just can’t seem to work through. As a Senior Accredited Psychotherapist with a PHD(Hon), Master Degree and EMDR(Accredited), I've seen thousands come through my door, with various presenting issues and undergo genuine transformation, healing and leave with hope for the future.

Psychotherapy offers the opportunity to explore the origins and roots of the difficulties you are experiencing in life today. We will work together to understand and untangle your feelings and behaviours, discovering a better understanding of the lifestyle choices you are making. This process will help you review your way of living, and the choices you are making. You will then have the opportunity to lead a more true and authentic life.

I work both individually and in groups with adults facing unhappiness, anxieties, addiction, stress, abuse, trauma, depressive feelings, relationship issues, sexual or existential struggles. I believe that psychoanalytic psychotherapy can help you unearth some of the root causes of these life issues and address the inner blocks preventing you from living a much more full and conscious life.

I specialise in the treatment of BPD. Clients who have achieved a level of stability and who are seeking to move from a sense of incompleteness toward experiencing sustained joy and a sense of purpose. Typically, once the ability to regulate oneself has been achieved consistently, a longer term sense of emptiness, lack of purpose and lack of sense of self persists. This is a new level of healing that requires a focus on meaning and direction, and a reconnection to a higher sense of purpose that is unique. Clients who are seeking to connect with who they were “supposed to be” beyond the life events that they endured and survived.

I am interested in family dynamics and relationship issues.
I believe we all find life challenging at one time or another. We all experience relationships and life events that affect how we feel about ourselves, the world around us and our place in that world. By making sense of the difficult thoughts, feelings and stuck patterns of behaviour that grow out of these experiences I believe we can start to see how we’d like things to be different and how to move towards change. This is where counselling can help. Together we can create a space where you feel supported to explore whatever you need, to gain insights that it might be hard to reach alone.

Whilst my approach is broadly existential, I apply my psychological knowledge and training to draw on and integrate a range of therapeutic frameworks, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Attachment-based Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and solution-focused therapies - to meet the individual needs of my clients.
Empathy, warmth, and curiosity are human qualities I very much value. They are central to the way I work as a therapist, enabling me to foster strong therapeutic relationships in a safe, confidential space where clients can feel understood and supported. I work collaboratively with my clients to help them gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their experiences and difficulties, and to facilitate an authentic engagement with the process of growth and meaningful change. In recognising that each person and their lived experience is unique, I strive to maintain an open and curious attitude rather than being guided by assumptions

FAQ - About Family Therapy
What issues does family therapy help with?
Family therapy can help families navigate the complex dynamics of family life, including communication challenges and recurring conflict between family members. A therapist can help family members identify dysfunctional patterns in communication and develop healthier ways of relating. Family therapy may also be helpful during major life transitions or stressful events that affect the family system, such as grief, divorce, trauma, relocation, or a serious illness. In some cases, family therapy can support families coping with specific mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, alcohol or substance use disorders, and eating disorders. In these situations, therapy can provide education and support to family members, as well as to the individual with the mental health diagnosis.

How do I know if my family needs counselling?
Family therapy may be helpful if a family consistently struggles with conflict or communication in a way that affects daily life or relationships. It can also be beneficial when someone in the family is experiencing significant emotional or behavioural changes, such as a family member becoming aggressive, withdrawing, or struggling to cope after a traumatic event. Additionally, some concerns, such as addiction or eating disorders, may be especially important to address in the context of the family unit.

Who attends family counselling sessions?
Family counselling sessions are often attended by members of the immediate family, such as parents, caregivers, children, or siblings. However, other family members may attend when appropriate, including grandparents, stepparents, stepsiblings, or co-parents. Who attends may depend on the family’s needs, the therapist’s recommendations, and the goals of treatment.

Can family therapy be done online?
Family therapy can often be done online. Virtual sessions may be especially convenient when family members live in different locations, have busy schedules, or live in a rural area or part of the country where family therapists are less accessible. However, online therapy may not be the best fit for every family. In-person care may be more appropriate when there are safety concerns, severe conflict, limited privacy at home, or when young children have difficulty engaging through a screen.

What therapeutic approaches are used in family counselling?
Family therapy can take different forms, including systemic family therapy (exploring how individual actions affect the family), structural family therapy (uncovering the structure and relationship dynamics of the family unit), and attachment-based family therapy (focusing on how bonds between family members shape relationships). Family therapy may also include psychoeducation, which helps family members learn more about a mental health condition and how to respond to it more effectively.

How much does family therapy cost and is it covered by insurance?
Family therapy sessions, which typically last about 50 minutes to an hour, often range from around £75 to £150 or more, depending on factors such as location, therapist experience, session length, and practice setting. Family therapy often costs more than individual therapy because it involves multiple participants and more complex treatment planning. The NHS may cover family therapy, but access is often subject to local availability and waiting times. As a result, many families pay privately or use private health insurance or employee assistance benefits, if available. Before starting therapy, it is important to confirm how you will pay for sessions and whether family therapy is covered, which provider types are eligible, whether a referral is required, and whether there are limits on the number of sessions. ****
