Something feels harder than it should and you might not even have the words for it yet. Maybe you're overwhelmed, anxious, or carrying grief you can't quite name. Perhaps becoming a parent has brought unexpected emotions to the surface. Or you're in the middle of a life transition that's left you feeling lost. I offer warm, relational psychotherapy tailored entirely to you, a space to slow down, make sense of what's happening and feel less alone with it.

I am a person-centred Counsellor and a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). There are times in life when people can experience unmanageable or emotionally overwhelming feelings and behaviours or maybe a trauma that may persist even if there is support from friends and loved ones. I encourage my clients to fully explore their experiences and help them accept who they are and what is out of their personal control, so they can better understand their current situation and improve their lives.

Many of the people I work with have been struggling quietly for a long time. They may appear fine on the outside while feeling anxious, exhausted, or deeply stuck underneath. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, low self-esteem, bereavement, PTSD, or body dysmorphia, you do not have to keep carrying it alone. I work with adults and young people in a warm, private, and completely non-judgemental space. My priority from the very first session is that you feel safe, heard, and respected. I believe that a genuine, trusting therapeutic relationship is the foundation of all meaningful change.

Counselling can help you to explore and work through emotional difficulties you may be experiencing that could be affecting your thoughts and behaviours. It is a space for you to share things that you may be finding difficult to talk to your friends and family about. These difficulties may be from your past that are now causing problems in your present or from a more recent trauma you have experienced in your life such as a relationship break-up, loss of someone close to you or difficulties with getting to sleep or sleep not feeling like sleep anymore, but feeling more like an escape.

You might also be navigating patterns that no longer serve you such as overworking, relying on substances, or constantly pushing yourself - coping strategies that may have once helped you get by but now leave you feeling depleted, stuck, or disconnected from yourself.
In therapy, we gently explore what drives your patterns and what your mind and body really need. Over time, you can feel lighter, calmer, and more in tune with yourself - discovering clarity, self-compassion, and a way of living that truly reflects who you are. You can build a life that feels meaningful, satisfying, and aligned with the person you want to be

Have you experienced distress and upset or loss ? Unresolved issues that trouble you ? Do you suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, PTS or depression ? Do you want to feel differently about the life you live or the person that you are. Perhaps you want to change aspects of you life for it to be more rewarding. Maybe you know that things are unlikely to change. Do you require a safe space where you can be heard, a place to share your thoughts and be understood. A place where being you is good enough. If you are 16 years old or heading into your 99th year, wanting to explore your world then it would be a privilege to support you.

I work with people experiencing stress, anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, concerns around substance use, or low self-worth, offering a collaborative, compassionate approach that supports meaningful and lasting change.
Life can be difficult, and we all go through times of challenge, uncertainty, or emotional pain. You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling to make sense of your thoughts or emotions. Perhaps things that once helped no longer do, or something in your life has shifted. You may be looking for understanding, relief from distress, or a way forward that feels more manageable and meaningful.

Addiction Counsellors
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
