Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Counselling in Bournemouth
I have extensive knowledge of Narcissism and Co-dependency, as well as direct experience of living with those who exhibit narcissistic traits.
I am a Person Centred and Humanistic Counsellor. This means I work from the belief that each client is an expert on themselves, knowing more about themselves than anyone else. I provide emotional safety and psychological support, in a calm environment where you will be valued and respected. By gaining clarity and perspective on what is troubling you right now, and with increased insight into your own internal world and how you interact with the world around you, your confidence in your ability to move forward in the right way for you will grow.

Hi, thanks for being here! Let me tell you about myself: I am a queer cisgender woman, and I use she/her pronouns. I am also neurodivergent and an intersectional feminist. These parts of who I am naturally shape the way I work. My counselling practice is inclusive and rooted in compassion. I aim to offer a space where you will be seen, heard and accepted just as you are.
Being queer and neurodivergent myself, I know what it can feel like to exist between worlds, to mask, to question belonging, and to be misunderstood. These experiences have inspired me to focus my practice on LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent individuals.

It's about you, not me. No one else has lived your life or had your experiences. No one else is facing what you're facing now. Big or small, we can talk it through together and find a way forward.

Finding the therapist that is right for you may feel a challenge, especially at a time when you may be feeling vulnerable or uncertain, perhaps facing a crisis point. This is not unusual, whether you have undertaken therapy in the past or whether this is the first time you have sought therapy. Sometimes we need help to overcome conflicts and blocks in ourselves and in our relationships that are confusing and difficult to face. I understand that you are a unique and complex individual, with many facets and aspects of who you are, how you experience yourself, and how you have had to adapt as you confront life's struggles.

We live in a complicated world where we seem to be constantly bombarded with messages of wellness that often conflict with the way we are able to navigate the world. We are constantly being told what is good for us in a very universal way without first exploring who we are, what we have experienced and what we need to thrive.
There are things in life that happen frequently to us, repetitive patterns that appear in our relationships, the way we behave, the way we think of others and, I think most importantly, the way we think about ourselves. Understanding these patterns will allow us to find meaning in where find yourself now.

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Counsellors
What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?
Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.
How do therapists treat NPD?
By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.
Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?
Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.
How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?
It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
