Much of my focus has been on supporting people who've lost loved ones, older people, and those who want to build better relationships with a partner,
family
or friends', but is not exclusively my skill set.
When we work together, you are at the centre of all we do. Perhaps you're at a point in life where you can't see a way forward. You may have been bereaved and lost the hope you've had. You might be experiencing stress at work and feel 'burnt out' with nothing left to give. These, and a host of other everyday life situations can come out of the blue and have a huge impact, throwing everything into chaos. I have almost 10 years experience of working with female/male adult clients and understand the pressures we all face, because, as a counsellor, I am not immune to them either, including living with a long-term illness.

I offer online therapy for alcohol/drug problems, including treatment aftercare, recovery mentoring and relapse prevention guidance. Addiction counselling helps you understand addiction, strengthens your commitment to cutting down or achieving abstinence, and addresses the risky thinking and behaviour that can sabotage recovery. I imagine you find yourself here because you are struggling with something and it is becoming increasingly difficult to manage this alone. Perhaps anxiety is ruling your life or relationships are strained. Sometimes a traumatic event or painful past experiences bring everything into sharp focus. In reaching out you are listening to that voice within that is telling you all is not well. The therapy I offer will attend to this. Together we will explore your challenges and what might be realised within your struggle as potential and possibility.

Family Therapy Counsellors
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
