Hello, I'm Zoë, a qualified SEMH consultant and play therapist. I am passionate about helping children, young people, and families overcome emotional, behavioural, and relationship difficulties. Seeking support for a child can feel overwhelming, especially when their struggles begin to impact family life, school, friendships, or daily wellbeing. Whether the child is experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, emotional outbursts, trauma, grief and loss, family separation, school-related challenges, or difficulties with relationships, I offer a safe, nurturing space where they can feel heard, understood, and supported.

I work with clients who have experienced trauma, bereavement, relationship issues, and people facing uncertainty and transitional periods in their life, survivors of sexual abuse, domestic abuse, coercive control, people with addictions, terminal illnesses, general and complex mental health issues.
Psychological distress is one of the most difficult things to overcome, often it consumes you, and you lose yourself. Therapy is about unfolding this, within a safe therapeutic relationship, where you are free to be yourself and find a way through, with me at your side. A key part of my practice, is working with you, rather than the diagnosis or label that you may have acquired. I help clients to disentangle and be free of the things that are holding them back, to become more authentic.

Sometimes it feels like everyone says that men have it easy. If that’s so, then why are three quarters of all suicides men? We've been taught to tough it out and to go it alone, and that it’s weak to ask for help when things get on top of us – even if there is someone we can turn to. I work with the issues around the difficulty of being male in a society that creates unrealistic and often contradictory ideals of masculinity that are impossible to live up to, and stops men connecting meaningfully with themselves and others.

Many people come to me feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or tired from masking, people‑pleasing, or holding everything together alone. Others describe the quiet exhaustion of being deeply feeling or highly sensitive. I bring both professional training and lived experience, offering a gentle, grounded space where you don’t have to minimise or hide parts of yourself. I support anxiety, low self‑esteem, masking, trauma, neurodivergence and feeling stuck. If things feel difficult, you’re welcome to get in touch.

I am a level 7 person-centred psychotherapist, with experience working with for example; bereavement, substance use, domestic abuse, trauma, relationship issues and neuro-diversity.
Psychotherapy: Making the decision to come to therapy/counselling can be difficult and sometimes anxiety provoking, and finding someone who you feel comfortable with can be a positive and reassuring start. I offer an initial, no commitment 30 minute session where we can begin to get to know each other, and begin to look at what you would to focus on in the work that we may do together. Part of the first session will include an outline of how I work, what to expect, discussing a working agreement which covers confidentiality etc, but it is mainly an opportunity to talk and be heard in a respectful, non-judgmental space.

Hello my name is Dawn, I understand that first contact and arranging a session and coming, takes a lot of strength, Many I have found is concerned about having to go into details of the concern they coming with or having to relive maybe a trauma. See therapy as painful. Therapy does not have to be painful, you do not have to go into details if did not wish to. Goals maybe to be able to look ahead to see there is a light, to feel heard, listened to, to be acknowledged. A place to feel safe and to look at all tools resources abilities already within to come away the the past and look to future which is preferred in a healthy way.

Hi, thanks for stopping by to check me out. It’s not easy to reach out for help and it can be hard to know what you need from the many services and therapists on offer. Like others I work with, you might find it hard to trust in people and open up. Maybe you're good at hiding your hurt and pain? Or you’re worried you’re making a big deal over things that you "should" have moved on from by now? Perhaps you’re ashamed that these things happened in the first place or feel embarrassed that they still bother you? It might feel wrong to feel sad when some things in your life are going well and others seem to have it so much harder?

Expressing your thoughts and feelings in confidence, and with someone who can ensure a caring and empathetic space is empowering.  Making changes is not easy, and that is precisely why I engage a very human approach to a number of models of talking therapies.

Addiction Counsellors
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
