I aim to empower people with long term change, using a directive approach to bring awareness and understanding about how and why you are impacted.  I run an ethical practice which is non-judgemental, compassionate and empathic. Clients state that I'm trustworthy and understand them. They report their increased awareness about impactful emotions and feelings, a better understanding of what's impacted, allowing them to better manage the outcome of challenging circumstances.

Are you finding it hard to connect with people and feel understood? Maybe you’re trying to make sense of a relationship; you used to get on but something’s changed and the idea of talking about it makes your heart race? Or perhaps you have tried but it’s left you feeling ashamed and hurt, leading you to believe it's hopeless. Counselling can make room for change and build your self-esteem to move forward.

Whether you feel overwhelmed by your emotions, want to explore your relationships or are struggling to make sense of the world, there is a safe space for you here. My work in counselling has provided me with experience in many different areas, such as grief, anxiety, addiction, sexuality, relationships and low self-esteem. It has become apparent to me that no matter what someone is going through, the main things we want are to feel heard, seen and understood. I have worked with a variety of clients, to aid self-exploration to identify triggers, difficulties and work toward self-acceptance.

Life can be pretty daunting and choosing a therapist is no exception!  I offer a complimentary, initial session, to meet, hear your story and we can take it from there... As an Integrative therapist, I recognise that each person is unique and has specific needs and circumstances.  Listening, without judgment, creates a safe, confidential space, to establish a therapeutic relationship .  Helping clients to overcome negative patterns of behaviour, caused be anxieties, fears, phobias or any other mental health issue, that is impacting on life (ie. addictions, depression, low self-esteem, past and present trauma and bereavement).

My aim is to co-create an environment that offers you a place to bring and share your unique experiences and begin to explore and understand how they have impacted you. I believe everyone can benefit from sharing their stories; often being truly heard for the first time. Nonetheless, this can feel odd initially, sat sharing information with a stranger. My creative approach to therapy responds to your individual needs to best support you whist undertaking this. My experience of working with survivors of trauma has been a live demonstration of the impact of previous and current experiences on our health.

There is no right or wrong reason for seeking counselling. It can help individuals learn, grow and understand. It can help people to make sense of circumstances or emotions that they are experiencing. It can offer an opportunity to explore and speak about things which simply aren’t talked about with anyone else. It can be helpful, informative, challenging and emotional. It can be whatever you need it to be. Our work together is driven by you; your experience, your preferences, your needs and your goals. I will seek to understand you and your experiences and what you hope to be different once our work together ends.

I offer therapeutic counselling to children, young people and adults. I have worked with children and young people within education for just over 20 years. I also educated myself further in Forest School and taught outdoors. Throughout this time is where I learned a great deal about the benefits of nature and the natural effects it has on health and well-being. I trained as a person centred therapist because I am passionate about empowering people to learn more about themselves and strive for positive change. I also experienced my own difficulties and trauma during childhood

Helping Young People realise their full potential within an ever changing world. I have over 15 years experience in counselling young people in private practice, schools and colleges. I have successfully worked on anxiety prevention and lifting low mood. I have experience working with suicide ideation, family dynamics, dyspraxia, autism, self harming behaviours, sexuality and gender, exam pressure, bullying, OCD and many more. I consider that, at times, young people need additional emotional support outside of their family and friends network in order that they can achieve their full potential.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
