Are you feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges? Mental health struggles are on the rise, impacting young adults, individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and those affected by domestic abuse. For those in the foster system—care leavers, foster carers, and teens in care—these challenges can feel even more overwhelming.
With over a decade of experience supporting care-experienced individuals and five years of counselling survivors of domestic abuse and harmful behaviours in the home, I provide a safe, non-judgmental therapeutic space tailored to your needs.

Support, warmth, understanding and acceptance, together with a professional service, this is what I base my counselling practice on. Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, frustrating, unfair...even cruel, throwing so many unexpected hurdles in our way. Struggling can be a lonely, isolating place and sometimes we need more than just talking with family or friends. I offer a calm, confidential, non-judgemental space to truly be heard and listened to in which you can explore your struggles or confusions and, hopefully, enable you to recover your own perspective and clarity surrounding whatever difficulties are impacting your life.

I work with adults who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from themselves, often after stress, trauma, or long periods of coping alone. Many of my clients come seeking a safe, steady space to understand their emotions and nervous system. Using somatic work, EMDR, and a pluralistic approach, I help clients build regulation, process difficult experiences, and move forward with clarity and confidence.

Perhaps you’re considering ending your marriage or making a big life change, but the fear of being alone or starting over feels overwhelming. These struggles can leave you feeling anxious, suffocated, taken for granted.

You may come from a family, culture, or community where expectations, loyalty, and responsibility are deeply valued. Perhaps you have spent years putting others first, meeting expectations, avoiding conflict, or trying to be the person everyone needs you to be. Yet underneath, you may feel exhausted, guilty, disconnected from yourself, or unsure of what you truly want. You might find it difficult to set boundaries, say no without guilt, make decisions for yourself. You may feel caught between different identities, worlds, or versions of yourself, wanting to honour where you come from whilst also creating a life that feels authentic.

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
