We all experience times in life when it may be helpful to speak with someone objective. You may be processing a loss, a change in your life, navigating relationship issues, healing from the past, experiencing anxiety, low mood or identity issues. Or you may have found yourself at a juncture or crossroads, and be ready to explore the big questions in life. Whatever brings you to therapy, being able to share your feelings and experiences in a safe space - free of judgement, can be a transformational, and deeply healing process.

In psychotherapy there is an opportunity to get to know yourself in depth and discover new ways of living your life. Often we have repetitive patterns and ways of thinking that can for instance cause suffering, frustration, anxiety and sadness in our life. Despite our best efforts to decide to behave and relate differently, we drift back to our old ways of being and behaving. In psychotherapy we will work at getting to know your unconscious inner life. A lot of feelings and thoughts we have are not conscious and psychotherapy gives you the opportunity to reflect and try out new ways when you feel change is needed.

Therapy is a unique and powerful undertaking that can change how you see yourself in the world. It can also be a playful and creative way to recover aspects of yourself that have been hidden, rejected or disallowed. I work with individuals who wish to explore their life and what they want it to be, or who are experiencing problems with relationships, anxiety, depression, illness, work or bereavement. I have a particular interest in working with dreams and creativity, both of which can be a means of tapping into inner processes and potential.

I am a Psychotherapist, Coach and Trainer. My specialism is supporting women who have had a close relationship where someone has used control to harm. This harm may have been emotional, psychological, physical, financial or sexual. The dynamic of hidden control creates an environment where the person on the receiving end feels unsafe, powerless or trapped. This type of relationship where trust has been betrayed and control hidden often leads to long-term distress, confusion and loss of self worth. Call or email to find out how I can support you.

Life can be challenging, especially in todays ever changing world. I have a wealth of experience from my own life journey. I have 3 degrees, which cover behaviour, neuroscience and the spiritual or transpersonal. Through counselling we can work together, to enhance your wellbeing, expand your awareness and raise your consciousness. I offer a place to get away from everything and talk while feeling safe without judgement. This can be a place to process what has gone on and learn how the world is perceived uniquely by you. Or if preferred online sessions that suit you.

Women's Issues Counsellors

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
