Life can feel overwhelming — you may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, stress, grief or relationship difficulties. Perhaps you’re feeling stuck or weighed down by thoughts you don’t feel able to share. You may not know exactly what you need — only that something isn’t right. I work with people who want space to reflect, find meaning, and move forward with more clarity and ease — even if they’re unsure where to begin. You’re not expected to have it all figured out.

Perhaps it is anxiety or depression, maybe grief and bereavement, a life limiting illness, family issues, men's issues, relationship concerns, money worries, work and career problems, loneliness, life's transitional stages, fear about the future, of ageing and death.
I’m an integrative counsellor. I believe there isn’t just one therapeutic approach for all situations. I draw on a number of counselling theories, using the ones that are most suitable and beneficial. The main approaches I use are Person-Centred, Psychodynamic and CBT. I also have significant experience of grief counselling and of dealing with men's issues.

I have a particular interest in loss, grief and bereavement; men's issues; family, marriage and relationship concerns; anxiety and depression; going through transitional stages; ageing; and sexual and emotional abuse.
I’m a fully qualified integrative counsellor, which means that I’m trained to support you by using a variety of approaches that best suit your needs. I believe this works well because your needs may well change over time, and I can be flexible enough to respond to those needs appropriately and tailor my approach to suit you best.

You may find yourself in the company of many yet still experience a profound sense of isolation. A significant portion of your life might be dedicated to conforming to someone else's expectations, leaving you feeling inadequate or disconnected from your authentic self. There may be an underlying sense that something is amiss, even if you cannot precisely identify it, yet you are aware that it does not feel right. The journey toward self-discovery, personal growth, effecting change, and fostering meaningful relationships with others can be daunting and unfamiliar.

My counselling service is consciously focused toward men, providing a space to feel safe and supported to work through issues. It's often a misconception that 'men don't talk about feelings', rather that men don't know that counselling can be for them too. Some of the reasons to come to counselling include; Sex or Relationship Issues, Questioning or coming to terms with Sexuality, Work Issues, Bullying, both emotional or physical, Anxiety, Depression, dealing with loss and bereavement. I am a fully qualified Person Centred Therapist and registered member of the BACP.

Is life getting you down? Do you feel listened to and supported? Are you struggling to like yourself? Do you sometimes feel you may be acting against your own best interests? Do you wonder why, so much of the time, you feel unable to bring about lasting change in the ways you relate to other people, and to life generally? I believe that early life experiences are critical to the person we become. Some of those early experiences will work to our good, whilst others may be at the root of why we find ourselves struggling, often without realising it. Self-awareness is key.

Men do want to talk…. they just need the right opportunity. The men I work with are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just not like themselves—and who might not feel comfortable with the typical therapy talk. You handle a lot. But who’s helping you? Maybe you're the one people rely on. You keep things together, push through, get on with it. But under the surface, you’re exhausted, disconnected. I work exclusively with men using a solution-focused approach to help you identify what’s holding you back mentally or emotionally, and to find a way through and out.

Helping Men Break Free from Overthinking, Anxiety & Relationship Stress, Including Retro Active Jealousy. You replay conversations, second-guess yourself, and feel like you can’t get it right, especially in your relationships. Maybe you're stuck on something your partner said about their past, and no matter how hard you try, the thoughts keep circling back. Your partner says you don’t listen, but you are trying. You’re exhausted from overthinking, walking on eggshells, or stuck in constant arguments. Even when you avoid arguments, things still feel tense.

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
