More and more people are finding that counselling can help them discover their own path or journey through what can seem like a maze of issues, decisions and choices. It can help them to understand what is happening in relationships at difficult times so that they can regain a sense of meaning, balance and control in their lives.

I work with both individuals and couples, offering help with the stresses of everyday life such as Anxiety, Anger and Depression as well as marriage guidance and a range of relationship problems.
I specialise in solution focused therapy (where we mostly look at the events in your current life) and in-depth psychoanalytic approaches (that make links between the past and the present). I work with the problems of social and intimate relationships, as individuals and couples. I offer stress reduction programs to groups.

I didn’t set out to be a counsellor but having worked in education for almost twenty years, I have dealt with issues such as: depression (as well as living alongside it), anxiety, marriage break-ups, bereavement and grief, as well as burnout and stress, from a range of ages and varying SEND needs from children as well as from parents.
Hello, I’m Matt and welcome to my profile. We all need help sometimes and reaching out is often the hardest step and yet “looking” for a counsellor can feel just as hard. There are countless reasons why people begin their counselling journey: perhaps you’ve been advised to, or you may have a specific issue or issues that you feel need addressing. Oftentimes it is the circumstances we find ourselves in that may be causing us issues or maybe, or maybe, life is just a little bit too hard at the moment.

I have worked with individuals, couples and groups on a wide range of issues including, bereavement, anxiety, all forms of abuse, relationship issues, low self esteem, burn out, marriage difficulties, family issues, and many more.
I have many years experience of working with domestic violence and women’s groups. I have also worked extensively with physical, mental and sexual abuse. I work using a variety of techniques to fit the need of the client. More recently I have found that adding meditation to run alongside Counselling has great results with some clients.

Life can often present us with some difficult and painful challenges. How we respond to these challenges, will vary according to our life experiences, especially our early childhood experiences. Having the time and space to untangle and make sense of our past and it’s impact on our present, will help us move out of unhelpful thinking styles, help us move, from being stuck in negative relationships and also help find ways to make the changes necessary in our lives. However, on occasion when the source of a persons difficulty is linked with traumatic experiences, then a more specialised trauma focused approach is required.

I hold a BA(Hons) in integrative relational counselling and a registered member of BACP. I have a number of years of experience working in the charity and private sector, supporting clients with a wide range of emotional issues. At the heart of my counselling practice is the aim to provide a space where you can come to breathe, to be, and find unconditional acceptance, positive reflection and discover alternative narratives and perspectives for yourself. A relationship that enables that to occur, allows for the development of self-awareness, self- acceptance, hope and healing.

I know personally how healing from trauma, overcoming adversity, and reclaiming your life is not an easy journey, but it is possible with the right support. As a counsellor and trauma-informed coach, I support women and girls in navigating the complex emotions and challenges that come with surviving trauma, domestic abuse, and chronic illness. My work is not just about offering coping strategies, it’s about helping women break free from emotional pain, rebuild their confidence, and live a life they never thought possible.

Hi my name is Sam. I work with children and young people. My focus when working with children and young people is to find a way to work with them to help with all of their areas of difficulty, from emotional to school and the variety of difficulties they can experience. I find that children and young people feel most comfortable in a familiar surrounding so I always try to work with the child in their own home or school.

Marriage Counselling

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
