Psychodynamic Counselling in Bitton

The main modalities I draw from are psychodynamic, person-centred and existential theories.
I believe therapy can be a transformative experience. Whether you have recently been through a difficult or traumatic experience, are feeling lost, low, are struggling with negative self-image, or you just feel it may be helpful to have a space to untangle your thoughts and develop a deeper understanding of yourself, I can hold a safe and non-judgemental space for you. My work is integrative (meaning I draw from different therapy theories), and is client-centred, at your pace, gentle and compassionate.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or exhausted from masking your needs to fit in?
Perhaps you're navigating the emotional weight of a recent diagnosis — your own or your child’s — and looking for space to breathe, reflect, and reconnect with who you are.
Have you always felt different? Are you curious about exploring your identity in relation to neurodiversity and neurotypicality?
I know how lonely it can feel to navigate systems that weren’t built with your mind in mind. I offer a compassionate, neuroaffirmative space where your experiences are validated.

I'm an integrative counsellor, using person- centred and psychodynamic theories in my work.
Hello, my name is Agnieszka. Sometimes we need a safe place to talk about how we feel and what we’re going through. Whether there are present life challenges or past experiences that trigger difficult feelings like stress, anxiety, low mood, or feeling overwhelmed, having someone who will listen to you with understanding and without judgment is the start of healing. Difficult situations, particularly traumatic ones, can leave us for years unable to develop and lead happy lives. They can effect our self-esteem and self-worth, forming successful relationships and disrupting our life plans and dreams.

I'm a psychodynamic counsellor, and I split my time between my practice rooms in Stroud (Gloucestershire) and St Albans (Hertfordshire).
The counselling process may involve releasing repressed emotions, making links between past and present to spot unhelpful patterns, and experiencing a new way of relating that can then be carried into other relationships. My aim is to help you make sense of your problems and develop a better understanding of yourself and others.

I tend to work from a psychodynamic/psychoanalytic framework where your early experiences in growing up can be understood and seen through the influences they bring to bear on your current motivations and relationships.
Wondering what to do, unsure what or who can help. And how? Whatever is troubling you, whatever is getting you down you don't have to struggle alone. Talking to someone outside your circle of family, friends or even colleagues at work can be the start of a new path. A path where you can discover how you got to this place in your life. And perhaps more importantly what it is you are seeking.

My modality is predominantly transpersonal, bringing a psychodynamic lens as well.
Finding a therapist can feel like a minefield. Ultimately you probably want to find someone to talk to that you feel comfortable with, and who can of course help. I understand how confusing and nerve-wracking it can be to consider therapy and take the first step. I provide clients with a supportive space in which to unpack their challenges. I will help you to get a better handle on what is happening for you. I have experience of working with anxiety, depression, significant loss and bereavement, childhood and midlife trauma, as well as difficulty understanding feelings.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
