Are you feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or exhausted from masking your needs to fit in? Perhaps you're navigating the emotional weight of a recent diagnosis — your own or your child’s — and looking for space to breathe, reflect, and reconnect with who you are. Have you always felt different? Are you curious about exploring your identity in relation to neurodiversity and neurotypicality? I know how lonely it can feel to navigate systems that weren’t built with your mind in mind. I offer a compassionate, neuroaffirmative space where your experiences are validated.

Psychotherapy can help you through a difficult time whether it’s due to stress, relationship issues or persistent feelings of dissatisfaction, anxiety, depression or an unresolved past.
I believe that when we understand more about ourselves we have greater choice and freedom in our lives. By exploring thoughts, ideas and feelings together, and being curious about what lays behind them, the process of psychotherapy can help to deal with emotional and relational problems to live a more satisfying and fulfilling life.

Perhaps you’re feeling stuck, anxious, or depressed, or you’re facing one of life’s crossroads and would benefit from exploring your thoughts and emotions in a confidential, professional relationship.
I work from my peaceful practice room in Nailsworth, providing a safe, non-judgmental space to explore both your present challenges and past experiences. Our early relationships and experiences shape how we see the world and connect with others, often in ways we may not fully realise. Together, we can explore what lies beneath the surface.

Maybe you’re dealing with anxiety or depression, or feeling troubled by past events and experiences like abuse, violence or problematic relationships.
One or more of these might be familiar to you. On the other hand, you might simply have a sense that there is something wrong in your life, but you’re not sure exactly what it is. Whatever your situation, I believe it can be really valuable to have the time and space to work through what you're facing with someone other than family and/or friends.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
