Offering a warm acceptance of all clients, its important in those early sessions that rapport is built and that we work together to understand goals for Counselling. For younger clients this is sometimes hard to communicate and therefore I look to introduce creative ways for them to be able to express themselves. I understand that each client is unique and therefore adapt our sessions to meet the needs of the individual, whether that is creating a safe confidential space just to be heard or supporting with a suite of Cognitive Behavioural Tools to aid negative thinking or behaviour.

I believe that each person is unique. Therefore, therapy needs to be tailored to the individual. Some people may prefer an open space for them to talk, taking the time to reflect on their experiences, whereas others may need something more structured, with the hope of learning effective coping strategies. Some may want a bit of both. There is not a one size fits all. I draw from evidence-based modalities of therapy, such as CBT, DBT, Psychodynamic, and Person-Centered to create a therapeutic plan tailored to the client and their goals.

I am a solution focused counsellor, my training derives from the understanding that when essential emotional needs are met, a human being will be emotionally and mentally healthy.. its when our emotional needs are not being met or are unintentionally misused that undesirable mental states such as: anxiety, anger, depression, addiction and psychosis develop., for instance, misuse of the imagination - to conjure up the worst possible or threatening scenarios-is a common feature of all these states. I aim to work through how you got to this point in your life, to help support you in finding new ways to move forward and embrace life.

I’m an Integrative Therapist with a passion for helping adults navigate life’s challenges, from anxiety and depression to grief, loss and trauma. This experience gave me a deep appreciation for different cultures, contexts and perspectives, which I now bring into my therapeutic work.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
