I integrate ACT, DBT and trauma-focused approaches where clinically helpful.
I work with adults who are struggling with anxiety, trauma, depression, or more complex and longstanding emotional difficulties. Many have been managing things alone for a while, or have tried to push through without much success. Some are not quite sure what the problem is, only that something feels off. I work with people at their own pace, starting with a clear shared understanding of what is going on before we figure out the best way forward together.

Starting therapy can feel daunting. Your therapist will provide a non-judgemental and confidential space to allow you to safely talk about whatever concerns you. The clinician knows how brave it is to begin therapy and will be sensitive to how you are feeling. Together you and your therapist will engage in a process so as to understand whatever difficulties you are facing. You might feel a sense of underlying unhappiness, dissatisfaction, a lack of motivation, or lethargy. Or you may feel anxious which can evoke a sense fear and stuck ness.

I use DBT, CBT, EMDR, and commitment-based therapy to support imy clients.
I work with people who might know what they want or why something is difficult, yet in the moment your body reacts and control is lost. Maybe you are neurodivergent, highly sensitive, or shaped by earlier adversity. I can help you unstick, notice your patterns, and support you in becoming cool, calm, and collected. To trust your responses, so you can meet life with more choice, steadiness, and authenticity rather than old survival strategies. I’m easy going with a good sense of humour.

The therapeutic process helps identify and understand what is happening in your inner world, in your relationships, your behavioural patterns and the difficulties in you experience. I work holistically with an evidence based theoretical framework. I believe that fundamentally we seek to know ourselves, to attune to our relationships, and to make sense of our story. These insights provide a foundation for a stronger sense of self, more fulfilling relationships, and an expanded perspective on life. Whilst therapy can provide symptomatic relief, my hope is that it will also bring you deeper awareness and sustainable progress.

You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck in repeating patterns, or unsure why the same difficulties keep resurfacing despite your best efforts. When something feels persistently difficult — whether that’s anxiety, low mood, trauma or relationship strain — it can be hard to know where to begin. I work with children, young people, adults and families to make sense of what may be happening beneath the surface — not just to ease symptoms, but to deepen understanding and support meaningful, lasting change. I have extensive experience supporting those affected by marginalisation, discrimination, exclusion and identity-related challenges.

It can take courage to cope day to day when there has been significant change or loss, or if emotional difficulties or dilemmas are preventing you from moving forward with your life. You might have existential questions about where your life is going, or be at a crossroads. Counselling can be like bringing along a suitcase full of your experiences, beliefs and coping strategies. We'll look through it together, re-organise it, maybe discard some baggage along the way. You'll aim to leave feeling you can be more authentic, and with more of a sense of purpose or direction.

I have also worked with DBT in time limited therapy to help with anxiety and managing overwhelming feelings.
I was trained in a person-centred, integrative approach. This means that I value the relationship between therapist and client so I don't have an ideal client in mind and I won’t stick to only one approach. I integrate different approaches from many psychotherapeutic methods according to the needs and the preferences of my clients. I work with adults, adolescents and children. I am also happy to work online with adults and older adolescents. I prefer to work face-to face with children and younger adolescents. I try, whenever possible, to use the arts in my therapeutic approach but only if it feels right for my clients.

Dialectical Behaviour (DBT) Counsellors
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
