Hello I am Paula and my aim is to make professional counselling accessible, affordable and convenient - so anyone who struggles with life's challenges can get help. Depression , anxiety, stress, overwhelmed are words we all hear on a daily basis when generally chatting to family, friends or work colleagues . Counselling can help us cope with those over consuming feelings. Sadly we cannot avoid trauma happening but seeking help during the trauma or even months, years later may reduce risk to further illnesses that have been linked to psychological trauma. Are you in an abusive relationship or having issues as a couple?

I am caring and compassionate and provide a safe, non-judgemental space to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so you may gain increased awareness, explore your options and find new ways to cope.

If you're looking for a counsellor, it's likely that you'll be feeling that something isn't quite right for you. You may be feeling low, have anxiety or have maybe experienced a traumatic life event. Or it may be that you can't quite put your finger on what's troubling you. Counselling can help by allowing you a safe, non-judgmental space to be able to start to make sense of your feelings, which can lead to change or positive coping strategies.

Psychodynamic Counselling is known to be particularly effective at treating depression and other serious psychological disorders, especially in those who have lost meaning in their lives.
I aim to instil an overall sense of mental wellbeing and health; to help clients work through past traumas by showing them a different, more positive way of understanding them; and to free individuals from long held anxieties so they can maintain better relationships and live a happier life. Alongside Private Practice, I work for the NHS as the Health and Wellbeing Practitioner at the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire, offering onsite counselling to staff members. Prior to re-training as a Counsellor, I worked for 14 years in the Financial Sector and so have plenty of knowledge and understanding of the Corporate world.

I help people have better relationships with themselves and those around them. If you feel that your 'emotional suitcase' has become too heavy to lift, life may therefore feel overwhelming, relationships may feel strained or are breaking down, you may feel anxious, depressed , angry, lost or stuck. You may even have an inner voice that is really mean. All of this may create conflict, distance and pain, taking you away from yourself and those around you. Making sense of ourselves and the world begins to get really difficult. You may need some help to unpack that case, sort through the contents and find clarity.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
