I specialise in treating insomnia and chronic sleep problems, having received training from the University of Oxford in the "gold standard" of insomnia treatment, CBTi.
My approach is one of curiosity, compassion and warmth. I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy; you are the expert in your experience, while I possess knowledge and skills to help you understand why you think, feel and act the way you do. Together we can discuss and explore your experience and formulate your difficulties, so that you can gain clarity on what might be keeping you “stuck” in unhelpful patterns and make changes in order to live a more meaningful, fulfilling life. I believe the ultimate goal in life is to become more and more yourself and that being able to live authentically is what makes us most fulfilled.

I am particularly passionate about working with trauma survivors and helping them navigate through flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, fear, despair, anger, guilt, shame, and insomnia with a focus on building strength and resilience.
People with complex PTSD avoid seeking help due to the fear of having to relive painful past experiences. As a practitioner with profound interest in PTSD, I understand this concern deeply which is why I use a highly compassionate and structured 3-phase trauma model that focuses on establishing safety & stability before delving into distressing memories.

Hi, my name is Hope. I know, a pretty good name for a therapist! I am an Integrative Psychotherapist. My aim and approach in therapy is to help you find your own path to the life you wish to live. We are all uniquely different and have different reactions to life and life events. I can help you work through some things you might find difficult. For example: Anxiety; Depression; Trauma; Relationship Issues. In order to heal and progress, we must first understand our emotions, what they are and where they come from. From here can make decisions to do something different, to break the patterns that no longer serve us in our life.

Every now and then life puts in front of us some obstacles that can be difficult to overcome without support. When left to our own accords these hurdles can often take us on a downward spiral, and lead us to feel insufficient, insecure, anxious, stressed or even depressed. It may be a familiar relationship that brings in the challenge or a social, behavioural, financial or work related issue. The worries that keep you up at night may be due to many reasons but if they are taking over and leave you feeling isolated in life, it might be time to seek support from someone who can help navigate through the difficult period.

Hello my name is Pete and I am an integrative Cognitive Behavioural and Person Centred therapist, with 9 years' experience in both of these forms of therapy. I also have a passion for helping people put their lives back together, which may be best described as life coaching. I'm aware people in need of this may not be in a position to pay the usual rates for Therapy and if that's you I urge you to contact me anyway, perhaps we can work something out. I am willing to work quite late if necessary though late slots are often in demand.

I am Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with over 8 years of experience, specialising in offering a compassionate, and accepting approach, teaching techniques in how people can take small steps to make big changes in their lives. I have lived experience of a lot of the difficulties that I work with, therefore I understand how hard change can feel to make, particularly when you feel like you are starting from zero, or feel behind in life. My approach prioritises making behavioural changes first that help to then chip away at the unhelpful thoughts that can often feel overwhelming to face.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
