My aim is to offer you a place where you can talk about your concerns freely and reflect on the situations that you find yourself in. I attempt to help you make some sense of your experiences, and through this process, possibilities might come to light, and you can then decide what you would like to do next.

I work in a trauma-informed manner and have specific experience and training in sexual abuse /trauma.
Has a recent or past negative experience left you feeling lost or stuck? Maybe you’ve tried to just get on with life but inside you still feel broken, replaying events in your mind and asking yourself why or how this happened. Perhaps you know what happened to you was traumatic or maybe you’ve told yourself it “wasn’t that bad”. Some days you seem to feel all the emotions all at once, and other days you feel nothing at all. Other people simply don’t understand, leaving you feeling alone and like you don’t matter. Most things in your life, your relationships, work or education might be affected and you long to break free from it all.

My main work consists of Couples counselling as well as trauma focused work, which includes childhood trauma. The work involves psycho education around brain fragments, where clients work to assess when they are operating from the frontal lobe and when they switch to the limbic system where they are reliving old trauma memories. Since Covid there has been an increased demand for couples work. A lot of work is around working with couples in troubled relationships. I work with children and young people who have experienced trauma and sexual abuse as well as bereavement support work.

And draw from a wide range of experience, working therapeutically with young people and adult client groups around loss, anxiety, depression, sexual abuse , racial identity, and relationships.
Reaching out can be difficult. Maybe you feel stuck, anxious, unsettled, lost your way, or uncomfortable with whom you have become. The difficulties within our lives can change who we are or how we see the world. It can lead to thoughts or behaviours that take us away from who we are, resulting in a feeling of something not being right, struggling to cope or to make sense of things. When entering therapy, our life experiences enter too, and healing occurs within the processing. We will work together to build trust and explore your emotions and thoughts within a non-judgemental and safe environment, working at your own pace.

I believe in healing and I done it myself using the modality of IFS by Richard Schwartz and I am still healing discovering new hidden corners in my psychic. Being with childhood developmental trauma myself in a home, where my emotional needs were not taken care and I was neglected, I know very well how you might feel. I know also that it is important to put your intention in the universe or make a goal for your healing then for sure you will be able to succeed to accomplish it. It do not need to be difficult neither so time consuming. I will teach you how to use IFS and you will be able to heal in between sessions.

Stress, anxiety, depression is no longer such a taboo subject, yet we often tell ourselves, I can cope with this myself or maybe nobody will want to listen because nobody has time, or how about I’m too ashamed and I blame myself so I will cope with this by myself...... Well I am here to offer you the space to speak the unspoken and explore worrying thoughts together. The problem might be a recent incident that has left you feeling unsettled or a long standing concern deep rooted in unresolved trauma that has affected you e.g. sleepless nights, social anxiety, fear, relationship issue, performance at work, mood, self worth.

It starts with a hello...but I know that starting the conversation can be difficult at times. Life brings its share of challenges but no one needs to suffer in isolation. I am here to walk this journey with you, so you can become a better version of yourself. I am a firm believer that not everyone experiences even the same issue the same way. Therefore, being flexible in dealing with the differing needs of clients, is a necessary skill I have honed over the years.

Domestic abuse can have a significant affect on mental health. Whether the abuse happened as a child or as an adult, abusive experiences can lead to low mood, high anxiety, flashbacks to incidents, difficulty trusting others as well as low self-confidence and self-esteem, even when the abuse is historic. These are all normal reactions to difficult and painful experiences. Specialist counsellors who understand what can happen and its impact on you helps recovery from those experiences. However, not everywhere in the UK offers specialist counselling: Dactari's online counselling service allows access to such specialism across the UK.

I work with clients with a wide range of issues. Most commonly they feel low, anxious, stuck, blocked or lost. They are often seeking quite broad or deep change within themselves. Sometimes they don’t really know what they are seeking but know that something is not right and that they are out of touch with their inner Self. But what they have most in common is that they are seeking a space where they can seek to explore how they feel, to understand themselves and what is happening in their lives and relationships, what has happened in the past, and how it may be impacting their present and their imagined future.

Sexual Abuse Counsellors

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
