I work with both children and adults and have a keen interest in working with those who have experienced complex / relational trauma with or without self harming/suicidal behaviour. I also work with
couples
experiencing difficulties in their
relationship
and work towards understanding the emotional conflicts, that result in the
relationship
being strained or likely to end without support. There is no one size fits all therapeutic approach and so I place importance on developing a shared understanding of what the core issues are that impact you.

I believe that a comfortable client-therapist connection built on mutual trust and respect will form the foundation of our ‘therapeutic alliance’ and the effective work that we do. I try to establish and maintain this type of
relationship
by providing a confidential space which is free from judgement for my clients to talk with someone about their concerns, whatever they may be. I privilege each person’s individuality, working in a client-centred way to honour difference and diversity and respect the uniqueness of each one of my clients.

Working together in a therapeutic
relationship
that will enable you to reach an understanding of your whys.
Life can be overwhelming at times, and we may feel that we don't have control of what is happening in our relationships, family, friends and work. We can be presented with many issues and not know how to process them. You want to speak to someone who will not judge. You want a safe space to talk through what is in your head and know you are free to be heard. Over time we can tend to bury what may have happened to us in our past and our present. These feelings and thoughts can be processed in a way that helps you grow into your awareness and healing.

Urban living therapy and well being, is an umbrella term for the type of therapy that I offer. I am a clinical psychologist with over 15 years experience of working with people with complex psychological issues. Very often what brings clients into therapy with me is an accumulation of live stressors, both from past experiences and current everyday challenges. Anxiety, depression, poor emotional coping, self-harm, interpersonal or
relationship
issues are the areas they wish to address. My clients seek to resolve old issues and develop better ways of managing their emotions and relationships with others.

I have experience working with individuals and
couples
who are navigating these struggles.
Hello, how are you really feeling? Anxious? Stressed? Distraught? Concerned? Pondered? Or just not your usual self? Do you question your future
relationship
with yourself or others? Perhaps you find it hard to say no, and always prioritise others needs and wants, ignoring your own. Maybe assumptions and perceived ideas has become the default way of communicating, or have you checked out and decided saying nothing is best? So many questions, issues and challenges, that we all think and feel at times with a different level of intensity, that needs a safe space where you can reflect and explore your feelings, thoughts and behaviour.

My main work consists of
Couples counselling
as well as trauma focused work, which includes childhood trauma. The work involves psycho education around brain fragments, where clients work to assess when they are operating from the frontal lobe and when they switch to the limbic system where they are reliving old trauma memories. Since Covid there has been an increased demand for
couples
work. A lot of work is around working with
couples
in troubled relationships. I work with children and young people who have experienced trauma and sexual abuse as well as bereavement support work.

As the therapeutic
relationship
strengthens, therapy can help with broad range of problems i.
As an integrative psychotherapist, I work from a humanistic approach, which means I view my clients holistically, considering their views, backgrounds and experiences. I believe that we all have an innate ability to develop ourselves and our potentials. Over our lifetimes, we all form ways of thinking and being to adjust to our environments. However sometimes these habits and beliefs are no longer useful and can become hurdles, preventing us from progressing. This is where contacting a psychotherapist can be your first step towards self-development.

relationship
, thus providing a platform where exploration, growth and change can occur.
Asking for help and deciding to go for counselling can feel nerve racking and scary. People come from all different walks of life and there is no right or wrong reason for deciding counselling could be something that could help you. It could be something that feels quite insignificant for you or perhaps it is something that is feeling overwhelming and there is no space for anything else. Whatever it is, it seems important to me that you are reaching out by looking on here for some further help or support, please get in touch for an informal chat to see if i can help you.

I have considerable experience supporting people with anxiety, depression, addiction,
relationship
struggles (plus autism/high sensitivity).
Do you sometimes feel different? Or that what you go through is unique only to you? perhaps you believe things that happen to you are all your fault? Or you struggle in relationships? I understand the need to feel part of the world, not 'messed up' - we are social creatures who often care what people think. And we have a natural desire to be the best person we can be - something to be cultivated. The conflict to fit in, whilst being true to yourself - creates tension, anxiety, depression, poor coping strategies. Plus the modern pressures of life rarely let us 'just be'. The process of therapy can resolve these deep conflicts.

I believe that the most important therapeutic tool towards healing is the
relationship
that we will create together.
Sometimes we reach a point in our life where feelings of anxiety or depression take over. Together we can explore what brought you to this point in a caring, non-judgmental and welcoming environment. We will look for any patterns or early decisions made in childhood and work towards making new ones that work better for you. I have found that the journey of psychotherapy is a challenging but very rewarding journey of self-exploration, self-awareness and self-acceptance.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
