I have helped clients with a variety of issues, such as, depression, anxiety, a
loss
or
bereavement
, suicidal ideation, and many more. I understand that these are not just words but hold a lot of meaning, sometimes life altering for clients. I offer a safe, empathic and non-judgemental space for my clients to explore their issues. I walk alongside them while they look for solutions with in themselves as I believe my clients to be the experts of their own life. Sometimes, to help my clients manage, I teach them strategies and skills. Other times I may help by psycho- educating my clients on mental health.

I can help with feelings of anxiety, depression,
loss
or a general sense that you could feel better somehow.
Hello and welcome to my profile. You've taken the most important first step to finding some help. Life can be pretty tough at times. Hard feelings do pass, but sometimes we get stuck and need help to gain insight and options to manage those feelings. I provide a safe space for you to explore what is going on. I work in a mindful way to reduce any anxiety you may be feeling and, if you would like, we can be creative using visualisation, art materials and toys to help you unlock things that you may not be able to put into words. I am experienced in video and telephone therapy, as well as face to face when circumstances allow.

As I am a specialist trained
bereavement
counsellor with Cruse
bereavement
care, I can offer clients support in this very difficult and painful area.
My main work consists of Couples counselling as well as trauma focused work, which includes childhood trauma. The work involves psycho education around brain fragments, where clients work to assess when they are operating from the frontal lobe and when they switch to the limbic system where they are reliving old trauma memories. Since Covid there has been an increased demand for couples work. A lot of work is around working with couples in troubled relationships. I work with children and young people who have experienced trauma and sexual abuse as well as
bereavement
support work.

Are you going through a
bereavement
? Are you struggling with anxiety? Have you been suffering with low mood? Do you feel lost, alone or confused? Being human can be tough and we can all experience difficulties with our mental health. This does not mean you are broken or need to be ‘fixed’, but instead you are having a normal human response to an abnormally painful, difficult or scary experience - it can help to talk.

Are your feelings muted? Or perhaps too loud? Do you wish to feel heard and understood? Have life events impacted you and your internal world? Are you struggling to make sense of it all? Is there a sense of losing who you once were? These are some of the reasons why people reach out for counselling. Transition, disasters,
loss
, excessive stress and relationship problems affect us all. At times we can manage what is placed in front of us. Other times, we need some support to navigate difficult times. Cultural stigma can prevent certain groups asking for help e.g. men; Blue light workers; military. Don't hold back. You matter.

Many of my client’s present difficulties with; relationships, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, work related stress,
bereavement
, trauma, eating disorders and problems with alcohol or drugs.
I entered the world of psychotherapy so I could manage and eventually overcome the painful emotions and thoughts that I had experienced. If this is the case for you, then psychotherapy can help you explore uncomfortable feelings that have held you back from living life to the full. Life often throws the unexpected at us, be it through relationships, either personal or professional, we sometimes find it difficult to cope alone and need the support to help us through this difficult time.

At times we can all face difficulties and my experiences including working with Depression, Self-Harm,
Bereavement
and Addiction.
Has life thrown something in your path that you are struggling to make sense of? Are you aware that your stress or anxiety levels are heightened and you are confused by these feelings? Then perhaps you need someone to talk to, to help you make sense of the confusion you are feeling and the unexplained emotions that can feel overwhelming and leave you feeling alone. As a qualified person-centred counsellor I can offer an empathic, open, safe environment, enabling you to explore those feelings, allowing you to better understand them and helping you to reconnect with you inner values and sense of self-worth.

You may be looking here because you are dealing with upsetting or challenging feelings and experiences, feeling overwhelmed, or having troubles in your relationships. If so, counselling could help you. In the counselling sessions you can explore various aspects of your life and feelings, talking about them freely and openly in a way that is rarely possible with friends or family. Bottled-up feelings such as anger, anxiety,
grief
and embarrassment can become very intense and counselling offers an opportunity to explore them, with the possibility of making them easier to understand.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
