I have considerable experience supporting people with anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship struggles (plus autism /high sensitivity).
Do you sometimes feel different? Or that what you go through is unique only to you? perhaps you believe things that happen to you are all your fault? Or you struggle in relationships? I understand the need to feel part of the world, not 'messed up' - we are social creatures who often care what people think. And we have a natural desire to be the best person we can be - something to be cultivated. The conflict to fit in, whilst being true to yourself - creates tension, anxiety, depression, poor coping strategies. Plus the modern pressures of life rarely let us 'just be'. The process of therapy can resolve these deep conflicts.

I've completed a Post Grad Cert in Autism with Dr Luke Beardon and I read widely the writing & research by autistic writers & advocates.
I work online with people in the UK. I provide an accessible & compassionate service that reduces psychological distress and enables autistic people to address what is difficult in their lives. If we have not been understood and accepted we may develop ways of being and doing that do not support our well being. We keep our true selves hidden from others and whilst this protects us, it can cause much pain and limit us. With an understanding therapist we can trust, we begin to make sense of who we are, how we are and what has happened to us in our lives. We can be truer to ourselves and live with more confidence, ease and acceptance.

I have over 5000 hours counselling experience and I have worked as an Autism support worker for 8 years.
Hello and welcome. People need an outlet to express feelings, it's normal to feel emotional from time to time but when it continues for a sustained period it's best to talk things through . You might be finding it hard to socialise, to laugh, to cope with anxious thoughts, to manage relationships. Well the good news is that you've taken charge of the issue by seeking counselling and you are now on the first step to feeling like the old you again. If you work best in a Goal orientated way then I am happy to help you set weekly goals to help implement and recognise the positive changes in yourself.

I have experience of helping adults and children with many difficulties including anxiety, panic attacks, depression, anger management, grief, complex trauma, autism and ADHD, transition, sexuality, eating disorders, self-harm and suicidal feelings.
Hi, my name is Claire and I am a child and adult psychotherapist. Often people don't fully understand why they feel bad and this can lead to confusion and feeling ashamed. The feelings are experienced throughout the whole body and can be so overwhelming that they can lead to panic, depression, anxiety and challenging or self-destructive behaviours. I help clients understand how things are for them right now, validate their challenges and help them see their unique strengths, all within the context of an accepting and compassionate relationship. I use neuro-scientifically informed approaches to help heal

Sometimes 'stuff' happens and life gets complicated and challenging. These concerns can be recent, short-term, unanticipated or due to life experiences in the past. Seeking support takes a lot of courage but here you are stepping in the direction of healing. I would like to support you in this process of self-exploration and rebuilding trust. Compassion and gentle challenges within a safe, confidential and warm environment can be vital in bringing sustainable transformation- from surviving to thriving.

I’m experienced in adapting therapy for clients who have autism and ADHD/ADD.
Choosing a professional to help you with your struggles can be a stressful process. Many people have heard of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy but aren’t sure what it involves, and don’t know whether they need CBT, counselling or something else. That’s not a problem - I will provide an initial phone or video consultation to answer questions, listen to your concerns and discuss with you what you are looking for. My first session involves an assessment of your current difficulties from the perspective of a trained mental health professional, and working with you to establish whether CBT or counselling would be most beneficial for you.

As an integrative psychotherapist, I work from a humanistic approach, which means I view my clients holistically, considering their views, backgrounds and experiences. I believe that we all have an innate ability to develop ourselves and our potentials. Over our lifetimes, we all form ways of thinking and being to adjust to our environments. However sometimes these habits and beliefs are no longer useful and can become hurdles, preventing us from progressing. This is where contacting a psychotherapist can be your first step towards self-development.

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
