Do you feel you don’t have goals or you can’t achieve them although you have tried everything? Do you feel paralysed or overwhelmed facing certain situations? Do you feel everything is annoying or your anger, sadness or fear last for long time? Do you feel stuck with some thoughts and you can’t stop overthinking them? Do you see these features within a member of your family? I think everyone will feel like this over the course of our lives, even it can be adaptative. However, sometimes we can struggle to find clarity and understanding , at the same time that respect both ourselves and others.

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and other CBT modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment therapy.
My friends would describe me as a warm, bubbly and compassionate person. I am someone who is always ready to give people time. I understand it can be nerve wrecking attending therapy and seeking help. Having grown up in a culture where mental health , was not discussed I am hoping to help change the stigmatism around mental health. Please be reassured that I am here to help with your struggle. My long term goal is to help people feel empowered in order for them to be the best version of themselves.  I would like people to talk about mental health as if it does not define them.

My initial training was mainly CBT-based but I have always had a strong interest in third wave approaches like ACT ( Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and CFT (Compassion Focused Therapy).
I strongly believe that psychological therapy can change or at times even save lives. Whether you are looking for a therapist because you are facing an acute life crisis, a difficult decision or because you finally want to address something that has been troubling you for a while, I hope you find the right support soon. If you are interested in enquiring whether I can be of help, you can email me or we can arrange a short phone call to discuss it. Therapy sessions can be conducted in person or online.

I use traditional forms of CBT, alongside approaches such as mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT ) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).
If anxiety is getting in the way of you living your life the way you want to, we can work together to change that. Anxiety can creep up on us and there doesn't need to have been a big trigger for it to have a real impact on our lives. I work with people to overcome a wide range of anxiety based difficulties, such as general worry, phobias, panic attacks, obsessions and compulsions and PTSD. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help you understand your anxiety, become less fearful of it and find ways to tackle it. Therapy can also help you to recognise what you are already doing that is helpful - there is always more than you think!

It’s even more difficult if you’re wrestling with a negative inner voice or baggage from your past. Perhaps you’ve forgotten what real joy or feeling safe is like? I understand. It’s not your fault. It’s because you have a tricky human brain with a sensitive threat system, that can tie you up in knots trying to cope.

Want to be a happier, calmer parent? Are you struggling with parenting stress or parental burnout? Has parenting stress drained all the joy out of parenthood for you and left you struggling with difficult emotions like anxiety, sadness, anger and guilt? Maybe chronic stress is making you act in ways you regret such as being too harsh with your children or becoming distant from them? When times get tough in parenthood, we often blame ourselves for not being good enough parents but the truth is we need better support. As a clinical psychologist and mum of 3, I know how hard parenthood can be and I know how best to support parents.

Clients finish therapy with me feeling more grounded and a sense of inner peace, they feel a deeper clarity and acceptance of who they are, and the confidence to start living in a way they have been yearning for.
Does This Feel Familiar? Maybe you feel like the floor has disappeared from underneath you and you've been free-falling for a while. You may experience a clenching sensation in your chest or stomach that you label as anxiety or depression. There may be a fear of losing control of your life or yourself, and a persistent sense of being on high alert to danger or rejection, leaving you feeling emotionally drained. A mental fog may prevent you from staying on task or fully engaging in your life, making it challenging to stay present with the people you love and care for. Maybe you are consumed with self-loathing towards your body.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
