Welcome! I'm Keturah, a qualified children and young people's counsellor, and I'm passionate about creating a safe, nurturing space where every child can feel heard, valued, and supported.

Through gentle, child-led therapy, I help young people navigate their emotions, build resilience, and discover their own strength.

Are you adversely affected by negative or unwanted emotions? A large focus in my work is helping my clients to achieve conscious control of an otherwise subconscious process. After 6 - 8 sessions of working with me, you will have much better control of your emotions, therefore a lot of issues that revolve around unwanted emotions will no longer be an issue. If you're interested in DBT, get in touch and I'll show you another approach that gets much better results with far less effort in a significantly shorter timeframe.

There is so much focus these days on "What's wrong with you" using terms such as 'depression', 'anxiety', 'disorder', rather than talking about "What happened to you?" Your mental health is much more than just a label or a diagnosis and therapy offers so much more than just talking. It can give you new understanding, new insights, a different perspective, clarity about a problem and the way forward. It can teach you skills to live your life better, teach you more healthy coping strategies or simply give you the space and time for self reflection and a place to find peace of mind.

Hello - welcome to my profile. If you are looking for a counsellor, I believe there is a need in your life that is affecting you and you are wondering whether counselling will help? This may be related to a relationship, job or health issue or it may relate to feelings of anxiety, anger, depression or loss that can be overwhelming at times. How can counselling help? This varies from person to person: some people benefit from short-term counselling, while for others, it is a more long-term process. Increasing in self-awareness, realising why we feel or react the way that we do, can empower us and can lead to lasting change.

I work in a way that’s person-centred, integrative, inclusive and relational. I always place your needs and values at the centre of our therapeutic work, while embracing your freedom and autonomy. I take an affirmative approach in encouraging you to bring any and all parts of your unique self; I take care to not pathologise or criticise you. I work very relationally, and I believe therapy can only be effective if there’s a strong therapeutic relationship at the heart of it. I’m interested in exploring what goes on in the therapeutic process and how this may mirror dynamics you’re experiencing in your wider life and relationships.

How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.
Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.
How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
