Hello and welcome. Are you feeling out of sorts, lost, or not yourself? You may be struggling with anxiety, grief, or other emotional difficulties. Maybe you're coming to terms with a recent separation, a health condition, or another traumatic life event. Life can be challenging at times and we can find it hard to see a way forward. Pressures placed on us can be unrelenting and take their toll. These can often manifest in unrealistic expectations of oneself, leading to high stress levels and burnout. Whatever you bring I will hear you.

I understand it can feel hard to be vulnerable and share your story. I’ll work gently at your pace, checking in to make sure it feels right for you. I’m a registered member MBACP (Accred) psychotherapeutic counsellor for children and young people, with years of experience supporting women too. I often work with those who feel low, worn out, anxious or unseen—who carry quiet feelings of not being good enough, or not truly mattering. Many I support are neurodivergent or tend to care for others while neglecting their own needs, often feeling burnt out, hopeless or uncertain about the future.

You’re holding it all together, but only just. Maybe you’ve had a panic attack in the toilet at work. Maybe you’ve asked ChatGPT to help untangle your brain.
You feel everything so deeply. The tiniest thing tips you over. Everyone’s got an opinion about what you should do, but you don’t even know who you are anymore. Maybe you've been carrying things alone for a while and masking how hard it’s been just to get through the day. You might feel like you're "too much" and still feel "not good enough". You're not broken. You’ve been thinking about therapy. Now you’re here, wondering if anyone will really get it.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of Counselling. The therapeutic relationship can provide you with a safe base to feel truly heard, accepted and understood in a non-judgemental and confidential environment.
My aim is that therapy will be a collaborative, personalised, authentic and rewarding experience. During sessions, I may use psychoeducation where I feel this may be beneficial to you to enable you to gain an understanding and to increase self-awareness. I believe that a client should have a ‘toolbox’ to use following their therapy journey.

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
