I draw upon a range of evidence-based therapy approaches, including Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT).
I am a Clinical Psychologist with experience of working within mental health settings for over 14 years. I work with people with a range of difficulties and all ages, including children, adolescents, adults and older adults. I work collaboratively with clients to develop a shared understanding of their current difficulties and to support them to work towards their goals. I believe it is important to build a safe and trusting space where a person can feel able to express themselves without fear of judgement.

Feeling lost, burnt out, or like you’ve fallen behind? If you’re in your 30s, 40s or 50s and wondering “How did I end up here?” — you’re in the right place. Do you feel unheard, overwhelmed, a loss of self or confidence, stuck in unhelpful coping mechanisms or patterns? Do you feel like your worth is tied to pleasing others, or how useful or 'perfect' you can be? Do you feel like your past is impacting your present? Is your inner critic running the show? I work with women who are tired of holding it all together, of living in survival mode and meeting everyone else's needs but your own.

I often draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), somatic approaches, trauma-focused rescripting, mindfulness and emotional processing.
Therapy is a partnership — a space to explore life’s challenges, openly and honestly. Therapy is centred on you and its where important changes can begin. We’ll bring curiosity to your thoughts, feelings and behaviours — and how certain patterns may be keeping you stuck. From there, we’ll work towards lasting changes with more clarity and confidence.

I draw primarily on contextual-behavioural and existential-humanistic approaches, with a focus on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT), a mindfulness-based form of CBT, Person-Centred Therapy (PCT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
We tend to suffer from anxiety, stress, and depression for too long before reaching for help, which can lead to unnecessary suffering. It takes courage to start therapy, and it takes courage to confront our problems. ‍ What I offer you is a calm and supportive environment in which you will be able to deal with any difficulties you are experiencing, with the professionalism that you deserve.

I’m trained in multiple approaches (including ACT and ERP which are the best-researched approaches for anxiety and OCD), which means I can adapt the sessions to you and the type of anxiety you're experiencing, and that’s often what makes the difference.
Anxiety has a way of shaping more of your life than you'd like. For some people it looks like panic or physical sensations. For others it's never feeling good enough, holding back in relationships, going quiet when they'd want to speak up, or pushing through everything until they're exhausted. People come to me thinking something is wrong with them, when actually fear has just taken over.

Hi I’m Mark, I offer a warm, empathic and positive approach to support those facing stress, anxiety, trauma, low mood, or a sense of feeling stuck. With a previous background in high-pressure roles and experience across a wide range of therapeutic techniques, I understand the challenges of both personal and professional life. I am experienced in working with adolescents, adults and families across a wide range of psychological difficulties and have undertaken specific training in a variety of therapeutic approaches including; Schema therapy, EMDR (a specialist Trauma based therapy) Cognitive Behavioual Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT), Narrative Therapy and Systemic Therapy.
Most difficulties come from feeling trapped, as if there’s no way out of the current situation... Low mood, anxiety, stress, behavioural issues all stem from feeling stuck and feelings of shame, guilt or avoidance get layered on top leading to a feeling of pressure. Therapy is about trusting someone to help you find a way forwards, I can do that.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
