I work with individuals and intimate partners experiencing difficulties with sex, intimacy or relationships, who want to understand what is happening and why. You may be experiencing sexual function concerns such as changes or discrepancy in desire, performance anxiety, pain, orgasm or erectile difficulties. Or you may be navigating relationship challenges including communication difficulties, emotional disconnection, betrayal or changes in your dynamic. Some clients come to me without a clear "problem" - but simply seeking a regular, safe, supportive space in which to express and explore their sexuality or erotic identity.

The first step to begin counselling can be daunting. I’m here to support clients challenged by anxiety, depression, unresolved trauma, or lack confidence, self-esteem. I focus on the whole person, listen, observe and notice without judgement, and see my clients for who they really are. I work openly and non-judgmentally cross-culturally, and in so doing enable clients become acquainted with their many facets, see beyond the surface and ‘permit’ them to be who they truly are.

Are you weighed down by anxiety or depression? Perhaps you are going through fertility treatment and you feel an overwhelming mix of emotions - including hope and fear - and you're holding it all together - lots of spinning plates - it feels too much to carry at times. Have you given birth and the birth was difficult and you know that you need to process what happened to you, but at the same time you push the memory away so that you can get through the day - perhaps your body is different, now, since you gave birth? Perhaps you have scars, stretch marks, loose skin, a prolapse? Are you feeling lost and unsure of who you are?

We all face challenges and difficult seasons in life that can leave us feeling stuck or unsure of how to move forward. This may show up as low mood, anxiety, overwhelming thoughts, or difficulty managing emotions. As a therapist qualified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), I provide a supportive and compassionate space where we can explore these challenges together and work towards meaningful change. Starting therapy or opening up to someone new can feel daunting, especially if it’s your first experience of therapy. I understand the uncertainty this can bring, and I aim to make the process feel as comfortable as possible.

Women's Issues Counsellors
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
