Hello, my name is Jamie and I am a qualified Clinical Psychologist (HCPC registered). I currently work full time for the NHS as a Senior Clinical Psychologist, and in the evenings I run a small private psychological therapy practice in Bexleyheath, Kent. I have specialised in delivering evidence based therapy to adults experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD, relationship problems and to those with a history of trauma. Adopting an integrative approach to therapy, I draw on Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), and Psychodynamic approaches to tailor each intervention to the needs of the individual.

Contact us to book a free, informal telephone or online consultation. Our approach is to create the right conditions to allow you to reconnect with your values to enable you to live your life the way you want to. Although we are not here to tell you what to do, we may suggest alternative perspectives and, if you don’t have clarity, help you identify what may sit behind your present frame of mind.

Deciding to attend therapy is a difficult and brave decision. It is important that you find a therapist with whom you can feel comfortable in being your authentic self, I aim to provide you with that experience. I believe there is no position or age from which positive change cannot be made and will support you in the process. Alternatively, if you have a goal that you wish to achieve, either personally or professionally, it is vital you find someone who can bring energy, enthusiasm and pragmatism to your sessions. I also have experience in the corporate space and provide seminars on a number of issues and coaching for groups.

I work in an integrative way, depending on your needs and goals, with my therapeutic work informed by evidence-based psychological therapies such as CBT, ACT, CFT, and EMDR.
Hi, I'm Claire. I’m a HCPC registered clinical psychologist who has worked in the NHS for over 10 years before joining Willow Psychology Service. One of the most important things underpinning my therapeutic work is building a non-judgemental, trusting and compassionate therapeutic relationship. It can be really difficult to ask for help: my aim is to create an environment which allows us to develop a shared understanding of your difficulties and equip you with the knowledge, tools and confidence to move towards your goals.

I also work with different communities like LGTBQ+ and with issues such as identity and self acceptance.
A therapeutic space can give us the understanding and confidence we need to make positive changes in our life. Expressing unspoken thoughts and silenced feelings is an opportunity to heal, walk light and recover a feeling of direction. It gives us perspective and open our minds to explore healthier ways of relating to ourselves. I´ve got more than 10 years of experience working with clients as a Psychologist. My approach is holistic and integrative and I have a University Master degree in Coaching and Systemic Psychology.

As a team of clinical and counselling psychologists, we use a range of evidence-based modalities to help people including Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy and trauma-focused therapies.
Whether it’s being caught in endless worries and ‘what ifs’, having painful memories of difficult past experiences, or going through a transition that has you feeling a little lost, life has a way of throwing things at you that increase anxiety, low mood, demotivation and impact relationships. This might affect you physically, increasing stress and tension, disturbing your sleep and appetite or preventing you from living a life that feels aligned with what’s most important to you. At ABODE Therapy, our psychologists provide you with a safe, non-judgemental and encouraging space in which to understand and navigate a way out of this.

I mainly use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy in my work.
Being a human is difficult. Each and every one of us, at some point in our lives, find ourselves stuck. We realise that this is not the life we planned for, that we are not the people we wanted to be and we are not moving any closer to it. My work focuses on helping people settle into those stuck moments, change their relationship with the uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, and to take steps toward the life that they want. I strongly believe that psychotherapy is not only a place to overcome certain difficulties, but also an opportunity for individuals to get to know themselves better and live a meaningful life.

Fear, anxiety, grief, loss and traumatic experiences can get in the way of self-acceptance and self-compassion. Without this, it is difficult to move forward with life and live well in the here and now. I work with clients to live well, whatever their circumstances and however they define living well. Our work together motivates changes in perspective, which leads to changes in feelings, thoughts, choices and behaviour. Although it is not a linear trajectory these changes can and do happen, with the right support, even in the most challenging of circumstances.

The work is tailored to your needs, with the curiosity and recognition needed for greater acceptance, new tools and growth.
It’s hard to control intrusive thoughts, to be stuck with difficult feelings, or without someone to understand what you are struggling with. And it can often be deeply frustrating, isolating and painful to barely manage issues that stop you living the life you want. One thing I'm sure of is that people need people to understand themselves. I offer a free phone session to help establish a connection, with everything confidential and no obligation at any time. Your challenges, and their solutions, are as unique as you are - I’m here to help you find them. It's good that you have made this step, I’d like to help you take some more.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
