People come into counselling for many different reasons, these might include stress at work or difficulties in relationships. Working with a counsellor who's focus is on you and helping you to work towards changing your life in a way that is positive for you, can offer you something that it is not possible to gain from other relationships what you may have.

I firmly believe that the therapeutic relationship is the main vessel of real change. Therapy is a journey to be embarked safely, and it can help you to deal with your pain. Together, we can try to explore that pain or uncertainty that hinders the possibility you have to live a full and meaningful life. We will work together towards your objectives; it doesn't matter how far they seem now or how painful is to think about them.

I am an accredited, fully insured therapeutic counsellor having studied Transactional Analysis psychotherapy, based in East Sussex; working with adults on a one-to-one basis, either in-person or on-line. I have a corporate background which compliments my work and provides context to some of the challenges my clients face. This mixture of experience allows me to better understand the struggles of how our 'public face' can often feel at odds with our inner world and of the pressures and expectations of self and others that often feel overwhelming.

If you decide to work with me it will be rather like setting out on a journey together. On that journey I’ll be your fellow traveller, companion and guide. Whether or not your reason for coming to see me is an external situation that’s impacting your life, a key part of our time together will be to explore your inner world. As we explore that world together you may develop greater insight into patterns of thought and behaviour that served you once but now limit you; you may find alternative ways of approaching difficulties; you may discover a way of being in the world that is more in tune with who you truly are.

Hello, I am Claudia and I am a bereavement specialist who understands the profound impact of grief. The deep sense of loss that it brings can be incredibly isolating and can cause powerful emotions such as guilt and regret to become part of your everyday life. Maybe grief is affecting your relationships, work, health and sense of hope for the future. You might be consumed by thoughts of the person who has died - or maybe you are struggling to sleep and eat well. These are all issues that clients commonly bring to sessions. We can explore any aspect of your loss that you wish to discuss. We can find a way through this together.

Are there parts of you that feel unrepresented, hidden, anxious, ashamed, angry, or judged by others? We aren't born feeling this way, have you ever wondered how you got to where you are now? My clients come to me because they trust I can weather the hard places we visit together. We need to be able to talk about the harder things in life, and I would like to offer you the space for this; a space of acceptance, warmth, and goodwill. 'Life is not the way it supposed to be. It is the way it is. The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.' Virginia Satir, psychotherapist. Changes, challenges, fears and loss are all part of our human experience. Sometimes we can manage the difficulties we face, on other occasions we may feel overwhelmed and in need of support. This is true for people at all stages of life. I offer a safe, non-judgemental, confidential and comfortable environment where you can talk about and creatively explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
