We live in a society that is increasingly busy, at times stressful and anxiety inducing. Whilst we are no longer being chased by a sabre tooth tiger, our brains often think that we are and so behave as such. One of the reasons I became a therapist and one of my greatest passions is working with clients managing anxiety and low mood symptoms. In addition, finding ways to take care of yourself, increase self-esteem and personal resilience enabling you to live your best life and the best version of you. I am able to offer face to face therapy, outdoor therapy and also via Zoom or telephone.

Is the thought of therapy daunting & overwhelming? From my experience of working with people over the years, after just a couple of sessions people feel more relaxed and at ease. Feeling anxious? Feeling stuck? Unfulfilled? Lonely? Overly Self Critical? Low
Self Esteem
? In Destructive Relational Patterns? Or want to make positive changes in your life? To recognise it's hard to break out of patterns yourself, is a good place to start. Whilst reaching out for support can be a real challenge, it takes real strength & courage to share vulnerable aspects of our self, and in turn that's where we can grow & develop as individuals.

If You're feeling overwhelmed with life, or maybe experiencing anxiety, depression, panic attacks, Psychotherapy can help you to explore what's going on for you and help you begin to understand yourself better, giving you a safe space to have your story heard. You may not know why you feel as you do, you just know that something is not right with you, and that's ok too. For some people trauma in childhood can lead to feelings of not belonging and to difficulties in making and maintaining relationships, psychotherapy could help. I work in a trauma informed way with people over 18.

Firstly, well done for considering investing in yourself and starting therapy. I know I am biased, but I know and see the benefits of therapy, although it is not always an easy journey, the personal benefits for you can be immense. I truly believe therapy is for everyone (me included). Finding a therapist is no easy feat, it is about finding the right match for your needs. The therapeutic relationship for me, is really important, I want you to feel safe and be able to talk about things you may not feel you can tell anyone else.

Do you want greater choice over the way you are living? Do you feel stuck or weighed down by negative thought patterns or anxiety about the future? In today’s hard world its easy to overthink, and focus our attention on what we fear or what's wrong. Maybe you are ready to change that. Maybe you are ready to find a different way to be .

Jo Gibson
Hello, for many people getting in touch with a stranger to talk about the feelings that you are experiencing is a daunting thought and also the hardest part. Once you have made that decision I will try to make the process as easy as possible. I work with adults and teenagers and offer you a safe and comfortable space to help you make sense of your thoughts and feelings in a non judgemental environment. Therapy isn't about blaming yourself or passing responsibility it is about working together with another individual to see how you can make positive changes in your life and move forward in the way that is right for you.

Self Esteem Counsellors
When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.
What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.
What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.
How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
