I have extensive experience with issues of bereavement and grief, chronic illness, anxiety, depression, domestic abuse and self-confidence, to name but a few.
Are you unhappy? I provide face-to-face counselling in Nunthorpe to help you understand why. You want things to change, but you don't know what or how. Somewhere everything went off track. You’re not fulfilled but you don’t seem to have the time for anything you want to do. Perhaps you’re lacking confidence or don’t know where you’re trying to get to. You’re trying to ignore the nagging feeling of gloom, but it’s bringing you down. I can help you to understand what is holding you back. I can help you to see things more clearly, to be the best that you can be and make the happy and satisfying life you want to have a reality.

I've successfully worked with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, sexual trauma, relational trauma, divorce, domestic abuse, emotional abuse, sight loss, physical disabilities and loss of identity.
Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy for People (16+) If you're autistic, have ADHD, or are dyslexic, you may have faced challenges that neurotypical people don't encounter as often — depression, anxiety, trauma, or bullying. Perhaps you've spent years masking who you are to fit in, leading to exhaustion and burnout. Maybe you've been told you're "too sensitive," or had your needs dismissed or misunderstood. You might be wondering if you're part of a generation that grew up undiagnosed. Or perhaps you're trying to understand your child better and recognizing aspects of yourself in them, curious whether you might be neurodivergent too.

A supportive space for those who want to make sense of life’s challenges and move forward at their own pace. Therapy isn't about having all the answers or trying to 'fix' who you are. It's about creating space to explore your experiences with curiosity, compassion, and honesty. Together, we can make sense of difficult thoughts and emotions, understand patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and work towards meaningful, lasting change. My role is to walk alongside you as you explore whatever feels important, offering support, challenge, and reflection in a way that helps you gain a deeper understanding of yourself.

I have experience of working with client presentations such as: drug and alcohol misuse, depression, anxiety, complex PTSD, bereavement, relationship issues, chronic health conditions, trauma and abuse and eating disorders / dysfunctional relationship with food.
I aim to provide a safe, warm, and non-judgmental space for clients to express and explore any difficulties they might be experiencing. I believe the therapeutic rapport between the therapist and client to be a vehicle for transformation and change. I am very client lead in my work and strive to collaboratively work with clients to tailor my approach to best suit what they require from me. Not one size fits all and no one approach is suited for all clients. I believe this outlook encourages clients fostering their individuality and uniqueness. I hope to help clients to feel empowered, confident, and reconnected with themselves.

You might be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure why certain emotions or body sensations keep showing up. Many people I work with feel disconnected from themselves or stuck in overwhelming patterns they can’t quite explain, often for a long period of time. I offer a calm, supportive space to explore what’s happening in your body and nervous system, helping you feel more grounded, regulated and connected again. This way of working can be particularly helpful if anxiety, stress or trauma show up physically through tension, fatigue, pain or shutdown.

Grief sits next to anger.
Some people arrive knowing exactly what's wrong. Most don't. They just know something has to change. They're tired of going round in circles. Tired of the same arguments, the same anxious feelings, the same version of themselves showing up. Couples navigating affairs and betrayals, or just growing apart. Individuals carrying work-related stress, or a career shift that's shaken who they are. Professionals brilliant at their job and falling apart at home. I work with couples using Emotionally Focused Therapy, and with individuals at their own pace, to find what's driving the pattern you're stuck in, and a way through it together.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
