Warmth, empathy, non-judgemental acceptance, scientific rigour and humour are at the heart of my approach to therapy. I work using only the latest psychological science, principally through state of the art CBT methods known as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ("ACT"). CBT/ACT aims to give clients a therapeutic fishing rod, not just a fish, so that clients are helped to become CBT/ACT experts, their own therapists for the future. I also offer EMDR, a ground-breaking therapy for trauma. Therapy can be challenging, but more often it should be healing, uplifting, enriching and fun.

Therapy is your space to think about you, your experiences, your feelings, your life. When things are feeling difficult, you may not know the reason why. Taking time to talk to someone not involved in your life can be helpful.

Most of us feel emotionally challenged at times and we can often feel more overwhelmed when we don't share our problems and feelings. I offer an empathetic, confidential, non-judgemental space for you to talk openly at a pace that suits you. I will be present when listening to you and I'll provide you with insight if I feel it may be of benefit to you and I will always tailor my approach to suit you as an individual. Overtime it's become clear to me that we humans can't help suppressing our feelings, as our defence mechanisms (created during childhood) are working automatically in the background to try and keep us safe.

Many of the people I work with feel unsure of who they are, often carrying imposter feelings, struggling to fit in, or working hard to seem capable even when they feel anything but. You might look steady from the outside, yet inside you’re managing burnout, masking, overthinking, people‑pleasing, or the pressure to keep performing. If therapy has felt too distant, too structured, or too passive, I offer a grounded, relational space where you can slow down, drop the script, feel genuinely met, and begin reconnecting with who you are.

Therapy is time set aside by you and the therapist to look at what has brought you to therapy. This might include talking about life events (past and present), feelings, emotions, relationships, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour. Resilience isn’t about never falling over. It’s about knowing what do to when we do fall over and how we get back up again. I won’t judge you or criticise you.  I work with the uniqueness of each individual client and endeavour to offer a relationship in which you feel heard, accepted, safe and valued.  And collaboratively we will work to make positive changes in your life.

People often come to me when something in their life or relationships no longer makes sense, or when the same patterns seem to repeat despite their best efforts to change them. Sometimes life looks perfectly functional from the outside, whilst underneath there is anxiety, shame, loneliness, trauma or a sense of disconnection. I work with individuals and couples, including professionals and people in creative or public-facing roles, to understand what may lie beneath these difficulties and how past relationships continue to shape the present, so that greater awareness can bring more freedom and choice in how they live and relate.

Men's Issues Counsellors
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
