Counsellor, DCounsPsych, MBACP
I have experience supporting anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and addiction issues.
I believe that what brings someone to counselling is often only part of the story. Together, we can gently explore what lies beneath the surface, developing a deeper understanding of your experiences, emotions, and the challenges that may be affecting your life. My aim is to support you in finding greater awareness, confidence, and positive change.

Have you experienced distress and upset or loss ? Unresolved issues that trouble you ? Do you suffer from anxiety, panic attacks, PTS or depression ? Do you want to feel differently about the life you live or the person that you are. Perhaps you want to change aspects of you life for it to be more rewarding. Maybe you know that things are unlikely to change. Do you require a safe space where you can be heard, a place to share your thoughts and be understood. A place where being you is good enough. If you are 16 years old or heading into your 99th year, wanting to explore your world then it would be a privilege to support you.

If you’re investigating psychotherapists right now, it’s likely something in your life isn’t working. It may be that you’re struggling with feelings of depression, anxiety or low self-esteem. Perhaps you’re having difficulties in your relationships, or your work is not fulfilling you. You might be carrying painful memories from the past that you’re unable to let go of and these experiences are now preventing you from leading the life you wish for yourself. Perhaps your coping mechanisms are not working or have become destructive, or maybe you feel there is something more to life, but you don't know what that something is.

I work with a wide range of client challenges, including depression, generalised anxiety, eating disorders, social anxiety, low self-esteem, panic attacks, PTSD, agoraphobia, specific phobias obsessive-compulsive disorder, self-harm, addiction, body dysmorphia, personality disorders, stress management, sleep difficulties and pain management
Warmth, empathy, non-judgemental acceptance, scientific rigour and humour are at the heart of my approach to therapy. I work using only the latest psychological science, principally through state of the art CBT methods known as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ("ACT"). CBT/ACT aims to give clients a therapeutic fishing rod, not just a fish, so that clients are helped to become CBT/ACT experts, their own therapists for the future. I also offer EMDR, a ground-breaking therapy for trauma. Therapy can be challenging, but more often it should be healing, uplifting, enriching and fun.

I work using a combination of Humanistic and Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) approaches. I believe that this offers you the best of both worlds. You may feel your life has lost meaning and this can lead to depression, stress or anxiety. This can sometimes be due to unhelpful or negative thinking (cognitive) patterns and together we can work on these. Talking to a professional counsellor can help you process those feelings and move towards a more contented life. I will not judge you and I will always work at your pace. I offer a careful balance of support and gentle challenge.

Are you finding it hard to cope, feeling anxious, overwhelmed or burnt out. Or do you have a sense of being stuck? Perhaps life has changed somehow, leaving you feeling lost, lonely, or managing a lot for the people around you, but quietly struggling yourself. I work with adults and young people dealing with anxiety, ADHD, autism, trauma, bereavement, chronic illness, and the aftermath of sexual abuse. I also support people who are caring for a neurodivergent child or young person with mental health challenges, or an ageing parent — demanding roles that can quietly erode your confidence, wellbeing and sense of self over time.

Life can be difficult and that can stir all sort of feelings in us. I look to work alongside clients to explore and reflect on their experiences and relationships in the hope of seeing new possibilities that are often hidden from view. I work with people from all walks of life and backgrounds, who come to therapy for all sorts of reasons. It is about providing you with the space and voice to explore and find your answers, rather than telling you what to do.

Something feels harder than it should and you might not even have the words for it yet. Maybe you're overwhelmed, anxious, or carrying grief you can't quite name. I offer warm, relational psychotherapy tailored entirely to you, a space to slow down, make sense of what's happening and feel less alone with it.

Many of the people I work with have been struggling quietly for a long time. They may appear fine on the outside while feeling anxious, exhausted, or deeply stuck underneath. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, low self-esteem, bereavement, PTSD, or body dysmorphia, you do not have to keep carrying it alone. I work with adults and young people in a warm, private, and completely non-judgemental space. My priority from the very first session is that you feel safe, heard, and respected. I believe that a genuine, trusting therapeutic relationship is the foundation of all meaningful change.

I help people who feel stuck to move forward, so they can have a better life. Has that thing you turn to for brief relief just trapped you again in guilt and regret? Or perhaps you’ve just had the same argument in another form - you want closeness but find yourself caught in patterns that seem to push it away, locking you in a cycle of distance and blame. You want things to be different, yet somehow end up in the same painful place - repeating patterns that leave you frustrated, ashamed or alone. I can help you make sense of what keeps pulling you back - so you can feel steadier and more in charge of your life.

Therapy is time set aside by you and the therapist to look at what has brought you to therapy. This might include talking about life events (past and present), feelings, emotions, relationships, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour. Resilience isn’t about never falling over. It’s about knowing what do to when we do fall over and how we get back up again. I won’t judge you or criticise you.  I work with the uniqueness of each individual client and endeavour to offer a relationship in which you feel heard, accepted, safe and valued.  And collaboratively we will work to make positive changes in your life.

When did you last feel really listened to? Do you feel ready to explore why you might feel confused, unfulfilled or overwhelmed by life's difficulties? Early relationships and life events may have shaken your ability to fully value yourself or others. You might be experiencing anxiety or depression. Being able to talk openly to an objective and compassionate counsellor can offer you the support you need to connect with frightening or buried feelings and start to let go of strategies that no longer work for you. You can start to find your own truth and a sense of who you really are.

I offer space for people who wish to explore fundamental issues. Some people are driven to counselling by a current crisis that means they need support. Others have been managing perfectly well but decide that repeating destructive patterns or underlying dissatisfaction now deserve attention. I hold a Diploma in Integrative Transpersonal Counselling from Re-Vision. This is 'counselling with a soulful perspective'. The strongest influence in the training is Jung. In this perspective, times of real difficulty or despair are seen as holding a potential for change and growth. In our work you will be heard and witnessed.

What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
