Somatic Counselling in Benfleet
My ideal clients are adults carrying the weight of childhood trauma, complex grief, or attachment wounds — often survivors of abuse, adoptees, or those stuck between grief and acceptance after loss. They come to me feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unable to move forward despite years of trying.
Using EMDR, IFS-informed approaches, and IADC Therapy, I help process unresolved trauma, release stuck grief, and address root causes rather than just symptoms. For those wanting faster results, I offer intensive therapy — three hours daily over three days.
Together, we work towards lasting change, so you can finally move forward.

Would you like to better understand yourself, your relationships and the patterns that shape your life? You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, negative, or dealing with the impact of trauma?
When it's difficult to put feelings into words, art therapy offers alternative, non-verbal means to communicate and explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe and supportive environment.
You don't have to be 'good' at art, or have any experience in art-making. I will provide materials and some prompts to guide you, but together we will find the support you need and methods that work for you.

Since, a holistic healing requires an integration of the mind and body, I pay specific attention to the somatic process along with the psychological work.
People turn to therapy in order to address the pain rooted in the past traumas. They opt for therapy when they feel unseen and unsupported. Once their instinctive needs to be seen and heard are fulfilled, people are able to revert to the Self. They are able to identify the negative self-perceptions and coping mechanisms that were adopted to be able to survive in a non supportive environment. Through therapy, people seek to empower themselves and take charge of their lives independently. I have frequently witnessed my clients experience deep healing with a holistic psychosomatic approach that is rooted in compassion.

As an IFS therapist and Dramatherpist my practice is underpinned by a passion for creativity and my experience in performing arts. When things feel like they are falling apart, they might actually be falling into place, but it still feels like falling. Sharing your emotional pain by seeking support is empowering. I nurture an embodied experience - the idea that you are stepping into yourself and tapping into your inner resources. My work is fundamentally shame reducing, I aim to cultivate self-compassion. I encourage practicing letting go of what is out of our control and fostering courage to put in action for what is.

Somatic Counsellors
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
