Are you constantly striving for the next thing but never feeling good enough no matter what you achieve? Do you find yourself comparing yourself to others and feel like you are behind? Perhaps you strive to achieve perfection and berate yourself if you don't reach the high expectations that you set yourself? Do you feel like the only one in the family that can never get things right? Or maybe you are holding back at work or in relationships through self-doubt, fear of failure or being hurt and let down. It can be hard to find a way forward. I get it.

If you’re reading this I guess you want to know a little about who I am and whether therapy would be good for you. In which case, hello – nice to meet you! I think I can help people with just the right kind of safe, non-judgemental environment that allows us to understand and work through issues. I work with clients face to face, or remotely by phone or Zoom, using a range of exercises and techniques that I have personally developed to help release tension and improve life. With a bit of work, you can end therapy feeling more secure in yourself and free from all that stuff which has stopped you from being the real you.

Hi! I’m Emma and I’m a person-centred therapist. I have found my niche is working with trauma and relationships, often working with individuals who are neurodiverse and LGBTQIA+ due to my own ADHD diagnosis and non-binary identity. However, I have experience working with a wide range of clients and topics. I offer support for whatever is on your mind. You are not a problem to be fixed, my job as your therapist is to provide the right conditions to allow you to explore whatever you want to bring to therapy to support your growth. This isn't a therapeutic approach wherein I will set a treatment plan or tell you what to do.

I believe that people are endlessly creative... Despite damaging childhoods, difficult life experiences, the most painful losses and challenges we face living in an increasingly complex world, we are all capable of turning our lives around for the better. With courage and the right kind of help, our natural inborn capacity for growth is brought to light. The process of making life better is just as worthwhile as the outcome. Somehow the whole process of confronting and solving the apparently insurmountable problems that bring us to therapy can also bring renewed meaning and poignancy into our lives.

Hi, I'm Caitlyn. I know how overwhelming the search for a therapist can be - especially when life can already feel overwhelming. Many people turn to therapy because they are struggling with depression and anxiety, processing a loss, wanting to understand themselves better, longing to shift areas of stuckness, living with relational difficulties, or experiencing the aftermath of trauma. Therapy can be a place to engage with your story, be met in your pain, understand your patterns of relating, and feel seen.

If you are someone struggling to understand yourself, the world around you, and your relationships, the space that we build together could facilitate a better understanding of yourself in relation to everything, including the emotional and personality difficulties you face as a result. These difficulties, in a more medicalised way, might be described using labels like depression, anxiety, BPD, mood disorders, OCD, trauma, etc. You can come as you are, with these labels or without them, and I will see and understand you without judgement and facilitate you towards the kind of growth and change that feels authentic to you.

Hi I'm Craig, a psychotherapist. I provide professional, down-to-earth psychotherapy and have worked with people from all walks of life, in both private practice and charity settings. You may have a specific issue affecting your life, or a vague sense of not feeling right, but want to understand yourself more deeply. My approach to therapy is especially well suited towards medium-long term therapy, to help with issues that feel stuck or that you've struggled with for a long time. Or difficulties you've worked on before, but still they seem to persist and return.

Are you struggling with feeling anxious, low or depressed, uncertain or disconnected? All around us people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage their relationships, careers and their lives. You are not alone. Talking about it can really help but perhaps the people you usually talk to are struggling with their own problems or don’t know how to help. I’ve spent 27 years as a therapist listening and helping people find more peace, clarity and joy in life.

Bipolar Disorder Counsellors

What is the most successful approach to treating bipolar disorder?

Living with bipolar disorder can be challenging, and a number of therapies have been found effective in providing support to patients as they gain the skills to understand and manage the disorder. Family-focused therapy is often helpful for children and teens (the majority of cases develop before age 19); it aims to minimize mood cycling by improving family communication and reducing conflict. It also helps young people navigate the developmental challenges the disorder can create. Cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) and variants such as Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)help patients manage the thoughts and feelings that influence bipolar mood swings as well as develop specific behavioral strategies to counteract them.

What happens in therapy for bipolar disorder?

Because the patterns of mood switching and its triggers differ for each person and can change over time, mood tracking or monitoring becomes a basic way patients learn about the nature of their condition. One of the most common features of therapy is finding a workable method of mood monitoring, in which patients track their daily activities and rate their moods, then use the findings to adjust routines accordingly. Patients learn ways of handling the many stresses that arise in life so that they do not trigger mood swings.

What kinds of problems does therapy help with?

Like many other mental health disorders, BPD is heavily influenced by stress; therapy provides skills for coping with stressors of all kinds. Therapy is extremely important for helping individuals identify the situations that may trigger mood switching, so that mood swings can be prevented. Therapy may especially target recognition of the early stages of mood change so that they can be managed. In addition, therapy helps patients deal with the significant amount of turbulence the disorder can create in relationships and in work life.

What is the goal of therapy for bipolar disorder?

Therapy helps patients set up their lives to maintain stability so that their mood isn’t constantly threatened by daily events. Perhaps the first task of therapy is to educate people about the nature of the disorder. At the same time, a primary goal of therapy is to enhance adherence to drug treatment. Extended periods of mood stability can prompt patients to discontinue medication, triggering relapse, while the early phases of manic episodes can feel so energizing that patients stop medication, ushering in full-blown mania and the altered self-perception that can lead to destructive behaviors. Another major goal of therapy is to understand one’s mood patterns so as to minimize both the frequency and intensity of mood cycling.
