Hello, and thanks for taking the time to look at my page. My name is Andy and I'm a qualified therapist who works in a humanistic way to offer a non-judgemental service. Whatever your needs are, we can have a chat to give you an idea of whether you feel I will be able to meet them. Please feel free to call or message me, and if I can't answer straight away, I will get back to you promptly. We can discuss what you hope to achieve from therapy and why you feel now is the time to reach out. Sometimes only a few sessions are required by my clients, others may want help over a longer period; only you know what you want.

Many people come to therapy because life no longer feels sustainable. You may look like you’re coping on the outside, but inside you feel emotionally tired and overwhelmed. You’ve spent years pushing yourself to keep going and life changes and transitions may feel challenging or unsettling. Worry, self-criticism, poor sleep or a loss of confidence may be leaving you stuck in survival mode. You might sense that past experiences or traumas are holding you back, but feel unsure where to begin or how to move forward. You want to plan your life goals and rediscover your identity, purpose and self-worth.

Over the past seven years I have worked a lot with clients who are struggling with stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship breakdown, ADHD or depression to understand what is happening and feel seen and heard.
We all need extra support from time to time. For some people they have difficult or distressing thoughts and emotions, a stuck feeling may have developed over a period of time, or for others a significant life experience may prompt the need to talk in therapy.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioural therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
