You may be feeling sad, anxious, angry or uncomfortable; stuck in painful patterns -perhaps in relationships, work, or how you see yourself. You may find yourself repeating dynamics that feel familiar but unhelpful, or struggling with a sense of emptiness or uncertainty about who you are. These experiences can be hard to put into words, but maybe a part of you is curious to see what change might feel like.

Counselling is about working together to reduce emotional suffering. You don’t have to face your challenges alone. Whatever your reason for seeking help, counselling can provide a space for us to come into contact with a broader view of yourself. We can use the time to think about how you navigate the world and your relationships with others. Some of the issues I work with: neurodivergence; anxiety; depression; trauma; loss; addiction; narcissistic abuse; dissociation; authenticity.

Are you feeling sad, lost, or overwhelmed? You might be facing relationship issues, a traumatic experience, or simply feel low without knowing why. It’s not always easy to carry these feelings alone. You may be looking for a space where you can talk openly and honestly, without judgment. My own experience of being in therapy showed me the power of feeling truly heard and accepted. That experience deeply informs how I work—with empathy, authenticity, and a commitment to creating a safe, respectful space.

We all get stuck from time to time, and having someone who has no preconceived ideas about you and offers a truly non-judgemental place to sort through your thoughts and feelings can be life-changing. As an American who has lived in the UK for over 20 years, I have witnessed attitudes around counselling change for the better. It's exciting to be a part of this. I believe the relationship between counsellor and client is of the utmost importance. This therapeutic relationship is the groundwork for creating a safe space to talk about difficult subjects.

In an ideal world, everyone should have someone, they can talk to. But the world isn't ideal and talking to someone you know may be difficult, or even problematic. So I can help. There’s a Chinese proverb that I like - ‘reading ten thousand scrolls, rather walk ten thousand miles.’ When we search for answers, our first point is the internet or books but what we can’t grasp from written literature, is the life experiences of interactions and 'light bulb' moments. My journeys have covered more than ten thousand miles. I have encountered and experienced many difficulties myself and I want to help you to overcome yours and feel better.

Hi, I’m Warren. I support people who might be feeling anxious, low, or stuck after difficult experiences and not sure how to move forward. Perhaps you’ve been carrying the impact of past trauma, struggling with confidence, or caught in unhelpful patterns that stop you from living the life you want. My clients often want to feel calmer, more in control, and free from self-doubt, anxiety or negative thoughts around past events. They want to feel ready to make choices that reflect who they really are.

I am an accredited counsellor (MBACP Accred). I work with adults, young adults (ages 16 - 18), couples and groups. I have a specialism working with bereavement, life changes and loss. Everybody has problems, but for some, working through them is more challenging than for others; perhaps because of an early childhood experience, trauma, a relationship problem, or a feeling of sadness that might feel too hard or frightening to unpack alone. Counselling will help you make meaning of how and why you are feeling the way you do and enable you to move forward with resilience and confidence. Please get in touch.

Throughout our lives, we are often confronted with experiences and/or difficulties that challenge us. Sometimes, these challenges can leave us struggling and in need of a space in which we we can safely explore, understand, and learn how to overcome these issues. Through careful exploration, not only is it possible to learn how to overcome these challenges, we can also begin to understand how they can in fact offer us new opportunities to learn and grow. I take a open and collaborative approach to therapy and am keen to support you with any challenges you are facing

You have made the first step by recognising that you need some help and for seeking this help now and that is a really positive decision, one that I know would have not been an easy one to make. Counselling is an effective tool to hep support with many difficult issues in your life and can help give a different point of view and think about things in a different way. Talking about your issues is good for your health and wellbeing.

Is life overwhelming or getting you down right now? Or perhaps you have felt this way for a long time. Maybe you're struggling with painful feelings like jealousy, anger or guilt. Or you're struggling with anxiety or depression and you're not sure what's causing it. Perhaps you are struggling with low self-esteem or relationship difficulties. It's hard to know who to turn to sometimes because of feelings of shame, or feeling like a burden. Whatever is troubling you it seems you have made that first step to seeking the right help.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
