Text/Call. Having been a client myself in the past, I have a strong appreciation of how difficult and painful life can be at times and the benefits of being able to explore what is going on for you in a totally non-judgmental, deeply empathic and confidential space, which is for you and you alone. I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist which means I am qualified and experienced in working with a range of strategies, techniques and modalities, depending on your specific needs. I am a psychotherapist trained in both psychodynamic counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). How I work with you will be largely dependent on your needs and your goals for counselling. We will identify this together during an assessment where I will aim to understand more about you, the challenges you have experienced and the particular issues you are struggling with. Our therapeutic relationship will be central to the healing that is possible for you in counselling. It will be a space where you will be 'heard' with compassion and without judgement and where the profound work of insight and change can occur.

Hello, my name is Michelle, As a counsellor and psychotherapist, I am all too aware of just how daunting taking that initial step towards counselling can be. The mere fact that you are reading this now means you are just a phone call away from putting that right. While we sometimes turn to a friend or family member in our hour of need, it is when the problem lies with our nearest and dearest that we should consult with a professional.

It might be that anxiety is stopping you from enjoying life, relationships are problematic, you’re not thriving at work, or you feel low, dissatisfied or stuck in your life. People may see you and think you are so positive and cheerful, but inside you are relentlessly beating yourself up and frustrated that life is not going your way. Struggled with anxiety, panic attacks, substance misuse and depression for far to long? Due to perfectionism, anxiety, people-pleasing, and other self-sabotaging habits that have taken over until you can hardly recognise yourself. I will support you in learning how to integrate a calm perspective, mindfulness and increase your ability to manage emotional reactivity in peak times of high stress and anxiety.

I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist in private practice, and I welcome anyone who feels that psychotherapy may provide the opportunity to consider their life. It is a collaborative process between the person seeking help and myself. It affords the chance to discover in which direction you might want your life to go.

Men's Issues Counsellors

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
