Text/Call. Having been a client myself in the past, I have a strong appreciation of how difficult and painful life can be at times and the benefits of being able to explore what is going on for you in a totally non-judgmental, deeply empathic and confidential space, which is for you and you alone. I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist which means I am qualified and experienced in working with a range of strategies, techniques and modalities, depending on your specific needs. The therapeutic
relationship
we will share is central to the work we will do together in order to help you explore and resolve your issues.

Therapy is a professional
relationship
but it is also a human one.
I aim to provide a safe, supportive and reflective space that allows us to explore your life challenges and identify how we can work together to help you feel happier and more able to live your life to the full. As a registered psychotherapist with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, I draw on and integrate established person-centred and psychodynamic approaches, as well as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I am trained to deal with many issues affecting emotional wellbeing, but I have particular experience of helping clients to understand their feelings and meaningfully process how this affects their lives.

I believe that the
relationship
between the client and the therapist is vital, so I aim to build trust through listening carefully and being consistent, open and honest in my approach.
It can be difficult to talk about what is worrying you, and you might not even be able to explain all of your feelings. I provide a safe, confidential, non-judgemental and empathetic space for you to explore thoughts, feelings and emotions that make you unique. I believe that you will have your own solutions, so I do not offer advice but will work with you for you to gain an insight into yourself, increasing self-awareness, developing greater inner strength and furthering personal growth and development. This, in turn, supports with anxiety, depression and other issues.

I am a psychotherapist trained in both psychodynamic counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). How I work with you will be largely dependent on your needs and your goals for counselling. We will identify this together during an assessment where I will aim to understand more about you, the challenges you have experienced and the particular issues you are struggling with. Our therapeutic
relationship
will be central to the healing that is possible for you in counselling. It will be a space where you will be 'heard' with compassion and without judgement and where the profound work of insight and change can occur.

I offer a confidential
relationship
in which you can explore your feelings while considering your life experiences.
Perhaps you feel anxious, insecure and that you depend on your relationships to be happy. It might be that you worry because you feel too needy in relationships. Maybe you have difficulties maintaining relationships because you end up pushing others away. You always find yourself in the same unhealthy patterns of being and relating. You would like to break these cycles and understand why they occur. You wish to understand yourself better, heal emotional wounds, and find a new perspective in life and relationships.

Hello, my name is Michelle, As a counsellor and psychotherapist, I am all too aware of just how daunting taking that initial step towards counselling can be. The mere fact that you are reading this now means you are just a phone call away from putting that right. While we sometimes turn to a friend or family member in our hour of need, it is when the problem lies with our nearest and dearest that we should consult with a professional.

If your life needs to change, and the change has to come now, come along and have a chat. I work with adults with a range of issues, including anxiety, low self-esteem,
relationship
problems, depression, bereavement, addiction, lack of purpose.
Modern life can feel overwhelming at times and it can be hard to find the way forward. It might be that anxiety is stopping you from enjoying life, relationships are problematic, you’re not thriving at work, or you feel low, dissatisfied or stuck in your life. By exploring your difficulties alongside someone who is non-judgemental, warm and fully attuned to you, it is possible to unlock the door to a happier, more fulfilling future. My focus is always to provide a supportive, trusting and empathetic space where you feel safe to share your personal stories and feelings so that we can explore these together.

I also offer
couples counselling
, supporting relationships through periods of difficulty and opening lines of communication, helping you both move forward with a stronger bond.
Welcome. It can feel difficult to start with counselling, so let me start by saying the work we do will be guided by your own choices and needs. You can express these in a confidential space of emotional safety and we can explore what is happening for you and better understand it. Together we can define and move towards your goals at a pace that suits and feels safe to you. I work with low mood, sadness, anxiety, depression and feelings of being overwhelmed.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
