I work with adults (18+) who look like they are coping on the outside, but inside feel overwhelmed, stuck or unsure of themselves. Many are holding everything together while dealing with anxiety around work, low mood, difficult relationships, family issues or the impact of past experiences. I help clients understand what is happening beneath these patterns, rather than judging themselves for having them. Together, we explore how past experiences, attachment wounds and relationship dynamics may be shaping the present, so they can build more self-awareness, stronger boundaries and a clearer sense of who they are.

Hi, I am Mariam, a senior psychotherapist, supervisor and clinical Hypnotherapist, in my experience clients come to therapy because they are either overwhelmed due to recent events in their lives or have been carrying unresolved conscious or unconscious ordeals or traumas. The goal of therapy should always include self-knowledge and self-healing. coming closer to self will help us to come closer to others. As part of this, it is important for all of us to have empathy towards ourselves. So the ultimate goal of therapy should be to gain self-love.

The warmest of welcomes to my page. It’s my pleasure to meet you. However you are feeling right now, that’s welcome too. I don’t know what brought you here. Maybe clarifying what the problem is, how those sensations are, expressing them somehow, can bring some relief. Be it trauma. Depression. Shame. Anxiety. Neurodivergence. Or a big jumble of everything! Your identities are all welcome here. I work integratively and neuroaffirmatively, with the deepest empathic respect for what you are experiencing. Your nervous system is yours. Let us map it together. Gathering resources as we go, to truly value all parts of you.

I had extensive training on a variety of therapeutic approaches such as Play-therapy and Art based therapy which now forms part of my work with children.
I am a Psychodynamic Counsellor that works with Children and Young People from ages 3-18 As a Psychodynamic Counsellor I believe that unconscious processes guide our ways of relating to each other. At the centre of my practice is the child’s well-being and safety. I aim to create a safe space for children to feel able to be themselves without judgment, what Winnicott refers as the 'facilitating environment’, where the child’s inner world can be explored.

Everyone faces difficulties in life. It might be that something specific has happened. Maybe challenges have built up and feel too much to handle. Or perhaps it’s possible just to get a bit lost somewhere along the line. Sometimes we need some extra support to process and soothe specific pain, or to take some time to get to know ourselves on a deeper level.

Sometimes life calls for a place to slow down, speak freely, and feel met without judgement. You may be feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or emotionally stuck—carrying experiences from earlier in life that continue to shape how you feel, think, or relate to others. You might notice patterns repeating, struggle with anxiety or low mood, or find it difficult to understand or express what you’re feeling. You don’t need all the answers—just a sense that something within you needs space, care, and attention.

How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
