I work with a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, bereavement, relationship issues, self harm, anger, bullying, self esteem, and more. If you need to find some space to talk to someone about your situation please contact me and I should be able to offer you an appointment within a few days. I provide a free, 30-minute no obligation consultation in which we can look at your main concerns. Whether therapy can help depends, in my opinion, on the relationship between us and how comfortable and safe you feel. I am also available by phone, Google meet or Teams.

Psychotherapy literally means to nurse the soul deriving its name from the ancient Greeks understanding of human nature and the psyche. Psychotherapy occurs when a therapist meets with a client in a private and confidential setting to explore any difficulties the client is having or the distress he or she may be experiencing, a general dissatisfaction with life where an explanation is not readily known, a loss of a sense of direction or purpose. It is a common misconception that only individuals who experience mental health problems require psychotherapy. In fact Psychotherapy is of great value to anyone.

Psychotherapy can help support you with a range of concerns. You could be feeling troubled by something in your life. You could be feeling low or anxious, perhaps from a bereavement, trauma or abuse. You may find it difficult to sustain healthy relationships. You may be experiencing chronic pain, an addiction to something that is doing you harm, or trying to come to terms with a frightening medical diagnosis. You may also hope to understand and love yourself and others better, to become more authentic, to understand the pain of being human, or to seek spiritual fulfilment.

I believe each of us have the capacity to grow to reach our true potential. What can influence or inhibit our positive growth? Our life experiences are affected by childhood events, our relationships with parents. siblings, other family members, friendships, work etc, Our soil can be contaminated by others in our lives when we experience childhood trauma, grief, loss, shame and witnessing violence. being in abusive relationships, life and death situations. These experiences influence us as we grow up, our emotions, our beliefs, our thoughts and our behaviours. This can make us feel depressed, anxious, derailed and scared.

So if you've reached this point I'm guessing you feel like you need some extra support and professional guidance. Life at times for all of us can seem overwhelming and our minds are like overfilled jugs of water or that junk draw that we have in our homes that just doesn't shut. Whatever your issue is, I believe I can help you. Together we can unfold what is going on for you, at your pace and then with my support, we can look at new ways of coping and reach a goal that you would love to achieve. The answers you're looking for, are already inside you. I help you find them, organize them and achieve them.

Hi! My name is Amelia. I am a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist (CBT) who works with children, adolescents and their parents/carers. I love working with young people and find this really rewarding. I appreciate how difficult life can be for our younger generation, I want to support them to overcome their challenges and live their lives as fully as possible. I often work with young people affected by low mood, general anxiety or social anxiety, although I can offer support with a wide range of difficulties. I am really passionate about working to the goals of young people and helping them to feel empowered and involved in their own care.

As a neurodivergent counsellor, with both training in and lived experience of ADHD and autism, I am sensitive to the specific needs of individuals with neurodiversity coming into the counselling room. During our first session we will establish what small changes can be made to ensure the counselling space feels safe and comfortable for you. Counselling is different to coaching, I'm not here to give advice, but to help you to explore who you are, what is happening for you, and what that means for you.

I work with adults, children and young people. Seeking psychological therapy can be a daunting task and my aim is to develop a trusting relationship where you feel able to explore troubling issues or experiences. The starting point is always what you would like to gain or achieve from therapy, followed by identifying, with you, the best ways of working towards your goals. Whilst I work primarily using trauma focused therapy, I have a breadth of experience and I draw on a wide range of approaches, depending on your needs and preferences.

Do you find yourself constantly thinking about food and constantly trying to lose weight? You’re “good” for a few weeks, only to self-sabotage and beat yourself up after another binge. Perhaps food has always been the go to – whether you’re happy, stressed, or frustrated. Or perhaps exercise is the problem. You need to do it, but it makes you miserable. You may struggle with body image, or even hate yourself for letting your body get to this state. If these resonate, you’re not alone. It’s easy to get stuck in these negative cycles, without knowing how to get out. The good news is, it’s possible to change.

Feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in a cycle of uncertainty? It’s exhausting when you’ve tried all the mental health advice, yet nothing seems to ease the weight you’re carrying. Perhaps anxiety or sadness has overshadowed your days, or grief has left you feeling lost. Maybe a difficult experience continues affecting your sleep, appetite, or overall peace of mind. These struggles can feel isolating, but with the right support, relief and change are within reach.

I have a passion to work with people who are in a transition period in life. You may well be aware that you are stuck or unhappy in some way and yet feel powerless to change. It may seem impossible to move forward, yet the idea of staying in the exact same position in life is equally traumatic. Remaining stuck is to deny our authentic self, the part of us that knows and yearns for a better way to be. My work is to journey with you, helping you connect with who you really are.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
