TA examines feelings and experiences that relate to patterns of behaviour that may be holding you back and having a negative impact on your life. In TA these repetitive patterns are referred to as our “Life Script” and one of the aims of our working together would be to raise awareness of what that means to you and what you would like to change. I have worked for almost 15 years with people from all walks of life who have experienced trauma, relationship and attachment difficulties, low confidence and self-esteem, stress, and depression and anxiety.

As well as a Pharmacist, I am also a Relational Therapist in advanced training. I believe that experiencing personal growth and self-containment is one of the most privileged journeys of one's life. For me, truly exploring who we are in this world is about embracing our ways in the here and now and understanding how they have been shaped by our past.

Welcome. It can feel difficult to start with counselling, so let me start by saying the work we do will be guided by your own choices and needs. You can express these in a confidential space of emotional safety and we can explore what is happening for you, better understand it and heal. As a qualified life coach I can also build on the therapeutic work to help you define and move towards your goals at a pace that suits and feels safe to you. I work with all aspects of identity in an inclusive non judgemental practice.

You may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of yourself. Perhaps you’re carrying the weight of past experiences, struggling with low confidence, or finding it hard to navigate relationships and daily life. You may be questioning whether difficulties with attention, memory, or learning are part of what’s holding you back, or wondering if a diagnosis like ADHD or autism could explain your challenges. Deep down, you want answers, relief, and a way forward. More than anything, you want to feel understood, rebuild your confidence, and reconnect with the person you know you truly are inside.

I provide individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapy for adults. I have over twenty years' experience as a therapist in the NHS. Psychodynamic Psychotherapy aims at deep understanding of psychological difficulties. It focuses on how we understand ourselves, our relationships, our past and present. It uses the interaction between patient and therapist to help understand patterns in other relationships. The therapy also considers more unconscious aspects, those things we are less aware of, but which can shape our lives. A psychodynamic approach can be helpful when difficulties are longstanding, repetitive and hard to resolve.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
