Welcome. I meet each individual as they are, I don’t find labels helpful. Each individual has a healthy, creative part, the part that is seeking healing. With gentle curiosity we learn to trust this part of you, it leads our process, and over time, as we work together, new possibilities are found. If you are struggling with feelings of meaninglessness, stuckness, being lost, angry, depressed, disconnected; or are having difficult memories, maybe traumatic; difficulties with physical pain recovery or prescription drug addiction, I am happy to meet with you and talk about how we can work together. Please see www.tamsinabrahams.com

Do you have a pattern of being submissive, passive aggressive or unable to effectively communicate your wants and needs? Do you feel like you and your partner don’t understand each other or feel as if you have married your mother or father? Couples therapy aims to uncover reactionary aspects of yourself that lead to discontent and a loss of connection and intimacy in your relationship. Wondering what to do, unsure what or who can help. And how? Whatever is troubling you, whatever is getting you down you don't have to struggle alone. Talking to someone outside your circle of family, friends or even colleagues at work can be the start of a new path. A path where you can discover how you got to this place in your life. And perhaps more importantly what it is you are seeking.

Alongside many trainings over the years, I am committed to my therapeutic practice and my own path of personal development, healing and spiritual enquiry. My personal experience in life has been extensive and rich. I’ve walked a diverse path so far through life and this has enabled me to bring understanding to working with many people. I continue to be deeply interested in understanding the unique struggle each of us undergo throughout our lives, sometimes more than once. In providing a safe, facilitating environment within which a process of unfolding, unlearning and enabling new self-learning, then an exploration can take place between us. Through greater understanding of our innermost self, together we can begin to allow the possibility for change.

If you change nothing, nothing changes but it can be hard to know where to begin. I feel it starts with you being heard and valued. Having your story and your feelings witnessed and validated is extraordinarily powerful and provides the catalyst for change. You will gain a clarity and a sense of perspective as well as an understanding of why you behave in the way you do. Talking to me will feel different from talking to a friend or family member. I will offer you insights and reflections, not opinions or solutions. I am interested in you and your experiences and they matter to me, but as I'm not involved I can remain objective.

Are you struggling with a relationship or juggling the competing demands of your private and professional life? Are you feeling stuck and uncertain about how to fulfil your potential? Have you recently lost someone close to you? I first sought help as a young mother and the benefits were so enormous, I chose to train as a psychotherapist myself. I work one-to-one and with couples, helping you to identify patterns in your relationship with others, and with yourself, and establishing ways of changing those patterns that do not serve you.

Life is messy and throws us off course. We experience pain, stress and anxiety for many reasons - life events, work issues, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, or feelings of low self-esteem that makes you feel stuck. We may simply feel adrift, struggling to find meaning and our place in the world. Confronting and solving problems can be a painful process which many of us avoid. Avoidance can result in greater pain and the inability to flourish both mentally and spiritually, but by working together to fully understand your issues and goals we can work towards a more fulfilled life.

Choosing to undertake counselling can be daunting but is a brave step towards changing the parts of your life that are no longer serving you well. Together we can examine what holds you back and explore options for moving towards more wholehearted living. I will not give advice, be judgemental or attempt to 'fix' you. I will give you the space to turn your problem over and examine it in the light of your unique perspective, allowing you room to see how you might proceed or understand things in a different way.

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
