I have a particular interest in trauma and how it impacts our nervous system: PTSD and C- PTSD , dissociation, hearing voices, addictive behaviours and coping mechanisms and their link to childhood trauma; 'ACE's' (Adverse Childhood Experiences), and how these affect us as adults. Trauma comes in many forms; obvious, overt ones such as physical or sexual abuse, car accidents, war, disasters etc, and also less obvious or covert forms like emotional abuse or neglect, bullying, or just 'not getting what we need' on an emotional level. I'm a member of ISST-D, a trainee member of UKCP and BCPC, and have specialist trauma training.

Do you have problems with anxiety, depression or post traumatic stress symptoms? I practice Body Psychotherapy, a way of working with the body and mind which can release trauma symptoms held in the body. Often what is needed is to actually inhabit our body more and to let go of the mind and fears of the future or memories of the past. When we can more easily inhabit the present moment we can be in our body in harmony and ease. Please contact me if you resonate with any of this and also find more details on my website www.suehealerbath.co.uk I offer in person sessions and also distant sessions which can work just as well

This may include CBT for depression, anxiety, panic, stress, low self esteem, anger, OCD, trauma, PTSD , workplace conflict, addictions and chronic pain.
Choosing a professional to help you with your struggles can be a stressful process. Many people have heard of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy but aren’t sure what it involves, and don’t know whether they need CBT, counselling or something else. That’s not a problem - I will provide an initial phone or video consultation to answer questions, listen to your concerns and discuss with you what you are looking for. My first session involves an assessment of your current difficulties from the perspective of a trained mental health professional, and working with you to establish whether CBT or counselling would be most beneficial for you.

Life is messy and throws us off course. We experience pain, stress and anxiety for many reasons - life events, work issues, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, or feelings of low self-esteem that makes you feel stuck. We may simply feel adrift, struggling to find meaning and our place in the world. Confronting and solving problems can be a painful process which many of us avoid. Avoidance can result in greater pain and the inability to flourish both mentally and spiritually, but by working together to fully understand your issues and goals we can work towards a more fulfilled life.

Choosing to undertake counselling can be daunting but is a brave step towards changing the parts of your life that are no longer serving you well. Together we can examine what holds you back and explore options for moving towards more wholehearted living. I will not give advice, be judgemental or attempt to 'fix' you. I will give you the space to turn your problem over and examine it in the light of your unique perspective, allowing you room to see how you might proceed or understand things in a different way.

I believe my strongest quality as a therapist is to make you feel accepted, understood, and most of all safe. I believe that only when we feel truly safe, free of judgment and condemnation can we trust, and trust is the most prized of all human emotions. My approach will enable you to be fully involved in every step of the therapy process and to feel truly engaged in every step you take towards your happiness. I am very clear in explaining to my clients what I offer and how I work.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
