I specialise in working with young people & adult clients to figure out the cause of their emotional distress & to start the healing process; enabling you/your
child
to move past them in a positive way.
Is your or your teens past affected by a distressing event(s) or relationship(s)? Do relationships continue to be affected; family, romantic, friendships, work, school? And your mental health? I struggled with abusive/narcissistic relationships for years & needed support to understand how this affected me & what I needed to change to have healthy relationships. I’m now passionate about supporting families, couples, adults, & teens to do the same; understand unhealthy relationships or move past difficult life event(s) to give them the confidence to be healthier & happier in their connections with others.

My clients are at the heart of every session, creating a welcoming, safe and relaxed atmosphere where communication can flow freely and openly. The most important thing is that you are comfortable, at ease and feel able to talk. I aim to help you see your challenges more clearly and to face the problems with less anxiety and tension. It can be an opportunity to think and speak your truth without fear of judgement. I am trained to incorporate techniques associated with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Guided Visualisation, Psycho-dynamic Therapy and Transactional Analysis amongst others into my work.

The most important element of counselling is the connection you have with your counsellor. I know how important it is for you to feel heard, validated, and aligned with the person you are choosing to trust. I started training as a therapist nine years ago, at aged twenty, as I wanted to help people in a more in depth way. I have since then enjoyed helping a wide range of people from all walks of life get to a better psychological and emotional pIace, with most of my experience in working with adolescents and young adults.

I continue to be deeply interested in understanding the unique struggle each of us undergo throughout our lives, sometimes more than once. In providing a safe, facilitating environment within which a process of unfolding, unlearning and enabling new self-learning, then an exploration can take place between us. Through greater understanding of our innermost self, together we can begin to allow the possibility for change.

Welcome. I meet each individual as they are, I don’t find labels helpful. Each individual has a healthy, creative part, the part that is seeking healing. With gentle curiosity we learn to trust this part of you, it leads our process, and over time, as we work together, new possibilities are found. If you are struggling with feelings of meaninglessness, stuckness, being lost, angry, depressed, disconnected; or are having difficult memories, maybe traumatic; difficulties with physical pain recovery or prescription drug addiction, I am happy to meet with you and talk about how we can work together. My name is Marianne Le Coyte Grinney and I am a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist: I believe 'the person is never the problem' and that people are best understood within systems, for example their family, work and social life. My therapeutic posture aims not to apportion blame, but to support individual and collective change within a safe and supportive environment. Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
