Are you struggling with high
anxiety
, repetitive themes and the need to relieve your
anxiety
with repetitive actions/thoughts? You may feel worried that you are a paedophile? You may be concerned that you will cause harm to a family member, friend or stranger? Do you spend much time ruminating about being gay/straight/transgender despite your own certainty that you are not? Perhaps you're worried that you don't love your partner, even though you know you do? All of these themes are extremely common with OCD. You are not alone. They, and many other themes, can induce fear of losing control and concerns around being judged.

Everyone is as unique and as individual as the issues, needs and goals that they present with in therapy. My various client's presenting difficulties are often diverse, ranging from those with mild
anxiety
and low mood - perhaps needing some clarity or direction in life - or maybe just needing to talk things through; to those with heightened symptoms of trauma, depression, distress and generally finding life extremely difficult to manage. The spectrum of emotional wellbeing and mental health is as vast as the various triggers and reasons as to why people initially come to therapy. Coping alone can feel extremely overwhelming.

Hello, I’ve worked as an integrative counsellor for 15 years, the last 12 being for the NHS. Whilst I currently work with children and young people and their mental health I have also worked in adult organisations such as Mind, Domestic abuse and bereavement services. I feel passionately about mental health and I am always amazed by individuals strength to go on a journey to make the changes that lead to emotional fulfilment and the life clients want. Together we can explore the areas that cause
anxiety
, distress and low mood and explore unhelpful behaviours and distorted thinking. I look forward to going on this journey with you.

I am a qualified and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I work with you using a variety of research based approaches to address your issue. You are brave and have identified that you need some support at this very turbulent time. When a crisis hits, a future that was once clear can become confusing and scary. Life is now very complicated and can leave us with feelings of
anxiety
, stress and depression. These negative feelings can make life overwhelming. Sometimes it is helpful to talk to a person not directly involved in order to gain clarity and insight.

I specialise in narcissistic abuse in relationships and the workplace. I work with
anxiety
and trauma alongside the dissociation from emotions this can cause. I have worked with survivors of domestic violence and bereaved families within a hospice setting. I also work for a society with worldwide clients recovering from narcissistic abuse. Exploring variations from your personal life within therapy is hugely important as I believe that no client is the same; regardless of whether they are experiencing loss,
anxiety
or an abusive narcissistic relationship.

If you have got this far you probably have an inkling that to talk about what is troubling you might help. Why not give it a try? Perhaps you are wondering how it works. The short answer is we work together to make connections between your past experience and your present life. It is as we become more aware of these connections that change can flourish. Why not take a step of faith and see where "talking about it" gets you?

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
