Using solution- focused strategies from CBT and ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness), I have successfully treated many clients with various forms of anxiety, OCD, depression and life crises.
I am passionate about tailoring each therapy to the individual and sensitively supporting their needs. Together with the client, we explore setting goals and using techniques and strategies from ACT and CBT to make meaningful changes to their well-being. I also draw on psychodynamic understanding to reach deeper conflicts when needed.

Depression, heightened anxiety and low self-esteem often stems from unprocessed difficulties or traumas. Past experiences shape us; affecting how we feel, what we do, the relationships we form and the lives we lead. We cope best we can and having therapy to address our difficulties and make changes can be a daunting prospect. Understanding what has contributed to struggles in living and what keeps problems going is the first step to making changes. I see therapy as a collaborative, exploratory journey that can enable new ways of being and living.

There are many different reasons why people seek out counselling, for example, they may be struggling to make sense of their life; repeating unhealthy patterns and not understanding why; feeling stuck; a major life event like bereavement, divorce, redundancy, etc. The first step is always in recognising and acknowledging that you are struggling and may benefit from some professional support and then reaching out.

Hi and welcome. I know how daunting it can be to start therapy but we can work together to explore your current difficulties, looking at them through a new lens so you have greater insight and perspective. By building a warm & trusting relationship with you I can enable you to feel heard and understood, make sense of your feelings or maybe understand why you are not feeling, gain greater insight into your inner emotional world, accept those parts of yourself you may not like, help you to manage difficult people and teach you how to turn off your inner 'critical voice' so you become more forgiving and kinder to yourself and others.

We come to therapy for all sorts of different reasons. Perhaps the most important thing to say is that there is no single, “right” reason. You might come to therapy because things have happened to you, such as a death, a divorce or a loss of something else, like a job. Or perhaps you have specific symptoms or feelings of depression, anxiety, stress, anger, low self-esteem or a lack of confidence. Or you may be experiencing issues in relationships, with people or with other things, e.g. food. Or it may be the case that you can’t pinpoint what’s wrong, things just don’t feel right and life simply isn’t going the way you expected.

How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
