You may be facing relationship challenges, a breakup, family difficulties, loss, uncertainty, anxiety, low mood, or questions about your identity and sense of self. Naming these experiences can help you recognise that you are not alone. Sometimes we all need a safe place to share what we’re carrying. Are you a mother lying awake at 3am, re-reading old texts from your adult child and asking yourself, "Where did I miss it?" Perhaps there's been an argument, a growing silence, or a painful estrangement, and you're exhausted from the worrying and trying to fix things that refuse to be fixed. You are not alone, and you are not a failure. I work with mothers navigating guilt, shame, grief, and the identity crisis that can come when children grow into adults with lives of their own. I'm an active partner in your therapy, which means we will explore different possibilities together and look at what is truly within your power to change.

Many families experiencing child violence find that they have become increasingly isolated and silent about what is happening. Breaking this silence is by involving supporters as a respectful and sensitive way to address the issue. Are you struggling with your child's behavior? do you find it challenging to stand firm against physical or verbal violence due to a lack of understanding of Autism, mental health, or other factors such cultural or religious belief? Additionally, are you struggling with your parenting style.

Lost? No one understands? Helpless and hopeless? You may feel overwhelmed by anxiety, persistent low mood, or constant self-doubt. Perhaps you overthink situations, struggle with harsh self-criticism, or feel trapped in patterns you can’t seem to break. You might appear capable on the outside but feel exhausted internally. You want relief from racing thoughts, emotional heaviness, or the sense of not being “good enough.” Most of all, you want to feel calmer, more confident, and back in control — to understand yourself deeply and move forward with clarity, resilience, and lasting change.

Welcome to my practice. Life can feel overwhelming at times. Patterns, anxiety, depression, past trauma, grief, or uncertainty in relationships can make it hard to feel grounded or connected to yourself. You might feel unsure in your relationships or out of touch with your own needs and sense of direction. Many of the thoughts, emotions, and struggles you experience reflect how you relate to the world around you and the challenges you face. Together, we will explore what is standing in the way of the changes you want and find a path toward greater clarity, balance, and connection.

I offer low-cost counselling for adults at £35 through my private practice: Sitara Psychosocial Services. I believe people deserve high-quality counselling and psychosocial support that they can afford to begin and sustain. The lower fee reflects my values, not a lower standard of care or the quality of the support I provide. I welcome adults with complex emotional needs, experiences of psychosis or a personality disorder diagnosis, focusing on the person behind any label. I offer space for all to speak openly without judgement.

Women's Issues Counsellors
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
