You may have had experience of counselling or therapy , or none at all. Sometimes it is hard to make the first step into talking therapy. You may be feeling that it could be helpful to have some time to talk about what is going on in your life, about feelings of loss, unhappiness, anxiety or maybe that things are just not 'right'. Feelings of loneliness and isolation are particularly difficult at this time. Working with the right counsellor can help to work through issues from the past , present day problems or looking towards the future and what you may want to change in your life.

At Holt and Heart Counselling, I work with adults who may be facing feelings of anxiety, low mood, stress, relationship challenges, grief, or major life changes. I offer a safe space to pause, reflect and be heard—a place to reconnect with your own strength, clarity, and sense of self. Therapy can help you begin to gently turn back toward yourself, to begin trusting your own inner compass again. Not by shutting others out, but by including yourself in the picture with the same care and importance you give to those around you.

Hello, welcome to my page. I am an integrative counsellor, which means I use different approaches to therapy depending on the client’s individual needs. I am a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and abide by the guidelines set out in their Ethical Framework (2108). I offer both long and short term therapy in the form of 50 minute sessions, with a focus on providing a safe, empathetic space that feels supportive and non-judgemental. There can be many reasons why we seek counselling, whether that’s due to difficulties from the past, or working on change and self awareness in the here and now.

I have specialist expertise in child and adolescent mental health, and in supporting families adjusting to or living with physical health conditions. Most people at some point in their lives will struggle with painful feelings or may feel overwhelmed by past or present experiences. These can make us feel lost, anxious, confused, helpless, distressed or angry, sometimes without us knowing why. Counselling is also not just for supporting people through a crisis. Many people come to counselling to explore and get a better understanding of themselves and their lives. Whatever you are experiencing, it can be difficult to explain how we feel to the people who are closest to us. Sometimes it is easier to talk to someone who is separate from your everyday life.

Parenting Counsellors
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
