I offer integrative, compassionate focused, CBT and EMDR therapies.
Often clients contact me when other therapy has not helped them in the way they had hoped. This is often due to the complexity of difficulties being layered perhaps in a history of trauma. Distress in the body and mind can be triggered by what appears to be something superficial. This can open up the past or come at a time when our emotional resilience is low so this event has a greater impact than it may have done. We can find ourselves not being able to function in our normal way. Many clients often identify as 'good copers' and those who 'just get on with it'. Perhaps we can't now - this is frightening and can derail us.

With 10 years experience working in the NHS in mental health I became a CBT & EMDR Therapist because I am passionate about working with people who have experienced trauma and difficulties in their lives.
My aim is to work together with the individual to teach them tools and strategies to deal with all aspects of life and through this process the individual learns to become their own therapist and can adapt the strategies learned to a variety of life experiences.

I also have a BA (Hons) Abuse studies, counselling diploma and extensive training in Psychosocial Interventions, CBT and ITEP.
Talking through personal feelings and experiences, with someone you trust not to judge, allows healing, acceptance, self care and awareness develop. Some may need to explore early years experiences to better understand the impact early experiences may have had. Others may want to start with understanding themselves in current relationships with others. It may be certain anxiety triggers or behaviours that someone may want to work through, or a general sense of low mood and lack of motivation. Each person is unique and accessing support can feel like a big step.

I have further training in; EMDR, CfD, the basics of CBT and schema therapy.
We all go through difficult experiences; from bereavement to relationship problems to work issues and more. Sometimes we just feel that something isn’t right or that we are stuck in unhappy repeating patters. For some of us, we know exactly what has affected us and perhaps have kept it to ourselves for some time but now need a safe and supportive place to help us recover.

I trained for five years to become a qualified Counsellor and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist.
Life can be hard, there's no escaping that, but taking that initial step to contact a counsellor may be the life-changing encounter you've been needing. Whether your issues are from the past, ongoing in the present or worries about the future, I've got you covered. If you need a safe space to figure out exactly what it is you need from life, a non-judgemental ear to listen without jumping in to add an opinion, a place where you can be yourself, hear yourself and learn to love yourself again...I'm your person. Whether you're depressed or anxious, struggling to reach your goals or are somewhere in-between, lets figure it out together.

How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?
Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.
When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?
It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.
How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?
To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.
Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?
CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
