I offer in-person face to face therapy sessions at Victoria Therapy Centre, telephony and online sessions.
It is rare to find someone who sincerely and genuinely cares, accepts us without judgement, or has true understanding empathy for us. People often tell us how we should feel or how they think we should deal with our situation, not theirs. Sometimes even with conditions, otherwise we face consequences. Thinking of what benefits them, not us. Looking at things from their perspective, not ours. This can lead to pressure to handle things in a way we do not want to and being in a place we do not want to be. Living an unhappy unfilled life where our feelings are ignored and unmet. Resulting in being in a very lonely isolated place.

I am a registered member of both the NCPS and the BACP, working mostly online but I am also able to offer face to face sessions as well, within West Yorkshire.
I believe people respond best when they feel seen, heard and understood. My approach is integrative (which is therapist speak for a bit of this and a bit of that - depending on what is likely to be useful) but the client (you) is always the best expert on themselves. I don’t assume there is a right way for a person to "Do Therapy" and adapt my approach to the needs and goals of each person I work with - but always working with curiosity, integrity and care. Whether you're anxious, angry, burnt out experiencing loss or just need someone to talk to, you are accepted, just as you are with me.

Our sessions are in-person and last 60 minutes.
I work with young people, adults, and families who struggle with feelings of anxiety, stress, low self esteem and low mood, worthlessness, and self-doubt. Perhaps you are an obsessive overthinker, struggling with OCD, or set excessively high standards/feel exhausted, and or are self-critical. We can work on techniques to relearn a more helpful and constructive view. How you talk to yourself matters. If your voice is unkind, it undermines your self-worth. What is important when dealing with stress or self criticism is to reframe our mindset towards it, but more crucial, to recover from it so that we don’t linger in this state.

I work in person at The Grove Therapy practice in the centre of Ilkley.
Hi, I’m Sarah. I imagine at the moment you might not be experiencing life as you'd hope to. Perhaps you feel anxious, sad, overwhelmed, stuck, lost, angry, frustrated, alone and/or are experiencing difficulties in your relationships. All these emotions are part of being human, but at times they can feel like they are taking over, causing distress and difficulties. It can help to talk, and I offer a gentle, respectful, kind and compassionate presence, keen to listen without judgement, welcoming the whole of you, at your own pace. I aim to be alongside you, working together to help you achieve the outcomes you desire from therapy.

I offer online counselling, via video, in the comfort of your own home or in person locally.
When overwhelmed by life’s difficulties, struggling with loss or suffering from anxiety, stress, and depression, people often have no one to turn to. Even with friends or family who love them, they don’t feel able to talk openly, due to guilt or embarrassment, or particularly in the case of bereavement, through not wanting to burden others. Often desperate to be ‘heard’ and supported, my clients come to me for counselling and find release as I allow them to offload from a place of pain, helping them find ways to cope with life again. It’s a ‘safe place’ – they can be ‘real’ without any fear of judgement.

Hello! I am Richard, a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) and EMDR Therapist, based in West Yorkshire. CBT helps us understand the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and how this can lead to challenges, even when we try our best. The goal of CBT is to work together to develop the skills and techniques necessary for you to become your own therapist and break free from unhelpful patterns. I utilize evidence-based techniques to help you work towards the goals that truly matter to you.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
